saturn compressor mystery

pippo on Fri May 18, 2012 5:01 PM User is offline

People,

Working on friends car- saturn 1996, 1.9L engine, 4 dr, SL2, I believe. Orig comp is:
Zexel DCV-11A, with center mounted suction line.

Wondering : On comp sticker it says " High Side 2.9MPaG, Low Side 1.5MPag. What does that mean? Is MPag equate with/cross reference to say, PSI? Millipascal??

Thnaks!

1 MPa = 1 Megapascal = 145.03 psi

Wow, thanks, Timmy. How come they add an extra "G" at the end of it? Also, do those pressures refer to charging pressures, as I understand its not that simple to use a targeted psi value to "charge"(?) If so, geez, 2.9 equates to high side 420psi!! And 1.5 equates to 217 psi low side! cant figure out why Zexel prints this on their comp tags......

G is telling you it's gauge pressure.

OK, good to know. So, why do they print/state these values? Cant be that one should pressurize low side to 217 or so psi......

Those are design maximum pressures, never to be exceeded in normal or abnormal operation.

Don't go over about 150 psi with a nitrogen test because many evaporators can't handle it.
