Question on oil when going BACK to R-12

Quattro on Sun July 22, 2012 8:49 PM User is offline

Year: 1987
Make: Audi
Model: 5000 CSTQ
Engine Size: 2.2
Refrigerant Type: R12
Country of Origin: United States

I've searched here and this is a popular topic but I'm not finding advice to my particular situation.

I'm re-doing my system and going BACK to R-12. I had R-134 in it along with BVA auto 100 oil. (that I bought yrs ago from AMA)

I figured that I'd continue to use the BVA auto 100 oil. It says it's compatible with R-12 however, upon further study, there is no shortage of discussions saying that when using R-12 mineral oil is more ideal than POE. Any thoughts on this? If the general consensus on there thinks I should go back to mineral oil then thats what I'll do.

I'm replacing the accumulator, exp valve and flushing the whole system. I'm also going to flush the compressor with what ever new oil I decide to use in the system.

Compressor is about 5 yrs old. It's a Nippondenso 10P17C. No problem with the system, I just wanted better performance out of it. I have new virgin R-12 to put in it.

Thanks.
