Using a Mastercool side can tap

In the next day or so I'm going to be charging my a/c system with R-12 14oz cans. I have the Mastercool 98661 guages that come with a side can tap.

I've searched here and only came up with a few threads that didn't answer my question directly or as clear as I'd prefer.

When using the side can tap, should I tap the can on top, bottom or middle? Keep can upright? Thanks.

I've used a side tap, but not that one. The can will be stronger near the top and bottom than in its center (due to flex) so I wouldn't do exactly at the center, but really doesn't matter much.

Once you add the initial amount after the evacuation, turn can horizontal so tapper is at the top side, so will draw refrigerant as a gas in when you turn on the engine and aC to continue the refrigerant addition.

Look for the soldered joint and don't try to pierce it there.
