My dads Tahoe hasn't had a working ac for the past 7 years. It's a secondary vehicle for him that I have kept running and I have no prior ac knowledge. I am a boat mechanic, I want to have a general knowledge of air conditioning so I've been reading a lot. According to a local ac shop his compressor was leaking (HT6). I ordered a decent set of mastercool gauges, 3cfm vacuum pump and a can tap. I bought the following parts for the car.
New sanden compressor
New condenser
New accumulator
New lines & hoses
New thermal fan clutch
New orifice tube (obviously)
The truck is 16 years old so the accumulator to evaporator was frozen, I did get the accumulator of by rotating it from the evap pipe but during the struggle the evap inlet tube twisted and kinked. It still flows and holds pressure so I continued. Anyway everything went together fine, vacuumed the system perfectly, charged with 3 cans of r134a. The vent temp is 62f but will not go lower. My low side at idle is 45 with a high side of 225, when I start to run it up to 1500 the low side will go down to 35 and the high side will climb to 250-275, when I mist the condenser the high will drop to 200 but vent temp will not change. I was very careful installing to o tube, the screen side went in first as the old one came out. It's the black o tube and I tried two different ones but no change. My question is could this be caused by the evaporator having a kink or did I possibly get a bad compressor. All the blend doors are working properly and I even closed off the water supply to the heater core with no vent temp change. I'm really lost and need some ideas.
