Got a Honda Element, 2005. A/C works every day when I first start the car and drive it for awhile. Nice ice cold AC. but After 3-4 miles it stops and just blows out regular air. Go inside, wherever, come back out after the 'truck' has cooled off a bit and then it works again, but soon after driving stops. This is very consistent. Honda dealership gives the standard answer of RR the compressor and a price tag of 1.2K.
That's hard to swallow since Im fairly good with cars but lack experience with A/C. I was hoping I could just replace the field coil or thermal fuse without having to discharge the system. Is this the right track? Seems to be heat related. Fan problem? Guessing Im asking if anyone has seen this and if there is a silver bullet for this issue or a couple things I might easily try.
Thanks
I'd check to see if the compressor was still engaged when it gets to the condition of stopping blowing cool air.
If the compressor stays engaged, I make sure that all the electric radiator/condenser fans were still running. And them mist some water over the condenser when it's blowing hot, and see if that returns the cooling. That would indicate an issue with the condenser to shed heat.
