Hello, I am looking into getting an r134 ac recycling machine for my shop. Can anyone suggest a good make and or model? My budget is $1k to $3k. I can go higher if i feel it is worth it but bang for the buck is important for me. I need a quality machine that I can use for atleast the next 5 years or so.
Mastercool makes a good unit. I think I can also get this model shipped to your door for the price range you are looking at.

I can tell you what to not buy. Dont buy a Robinair! Pure garbage and Robinair wont stand behind it during the warranty period but they will return your calls as soon as it's out of warranty. I dont think either of mine have made it through a summer w/o breaking down. My 34788 is dead now.
And dont get an RTI either. At least RTI sends out a repairman, He's been out to us so much that he knows us by name! And the RTI is slooow. Might as well grab lunch while it's charging a car, it might be done in an hr.
Did you locate a R/R machine? If so, what unit was purchased and what directed your buying decision?

What about the Mastercool 69100 as a strictly recovery machine? I have a vacuum pump already and gauges but getting into this sort of work. Amazon for one has them with a tank for under a grand which is in your price range. Are the R/Replace machines worth it for low volume work?

It depends upon how one completes a AC repair. Recover only systems do not allow for proper system recharges. A additional scale and possible heater blanket would need to be added to the mix. Charging by cans, even a 30 lb can and gauges is simply not acceptable for today's AC system. Simply can not accomplish a proper recharge with this older method.
A good 2788 machine should be obtainable within the budget expressed....more than likely near the top range. A good refurbished machine could be obtained for around $2200+.
A recovery only is a very good addition for a shop....recover contaminated refrigerant only.....but not for a complete service machine.

TRB, was up in the NY area a few weeks ago. The OSR took me to a shop and I could not believe the reception we received. The shop owner was ecstatic to see us....normally they are not so glad.....normally arrive to solve problems. Turns out the shop had a Mastercool machine....same as yours...that had been purchased some time earlier and the installer thought we were there to 'set up' his machine.
I did take the time to set it up...got it working...did a couple of recovery and recharges and truthfully the machine worked. There are others that are preferred...but this machine did the job and did it very well.
Good suggestion.

CoolTech, INFICON and Kent Moore are also few brands that are in your range but i think choose between Robinair and Mastercool they are really good in both quality and affordable also.
