2012 Hyundai Elantra A/C question

ric7744 on Fri February 13, 2015 8:02 PM User is offlineView users profile

Year: 2012
Make: Hyundai
Model: Elantra
Engine Size: 1.8
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Ambient Temp: 77
Country of Origin: United States

First warm day of the year in Northern California. Want to see if my A/C is working properly. What would be the vent temp you should expect at 77 degrees out with Max A/C on and fan speed on number 2 fan goes up to speed 4. Thanks.

I do not have any data showing what temps should be in these ranges. Import to know if the system is fully charged and there are no leaks. As the system can only perform correctly on a full charge.

Your wife will tell you if it isn't working- that's the way it is around here...

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

I'd say that after 10 minutes of operation one should see 37 - 45F out the center vent on speed 2 (higher speeds will have less heat exchange in the evaporator and be warmer temperatures). I get at least that cooling in much higher ambient temperatures here in Arizona in my 1988 Mazda truck, but that one is still R-12.

When parked in the sun, use for first 10 minutes the "non-recirculate" mode as the inside air (and seats, dash, etc.) are hotter than the outside air.

Now that Hyundai should still be under warranty if something is wrong, correct?
