Can I check press. on HI side

RonG on Sat March 05, 2016 1:48 PM User is offline

When I ADD refrigerant when the system is low, I connect it and fill to the LOW side. Therefore I cannot connect the LOW gauge to determine when the system is correctly charged. Can I use the HIGH side pressure to determine when the system is fully charged? reply to r33jones33@yahoo.com

No, Use a scale and charge to specified weight- and charge from a vacuum to assure proper weighed in charge. The required amount is on your under hood label. I would never advise charging a mobile unit by low or high side pressures- too many variables. And if this is a chronic problem- I would fix the leak before adding refrigerant.

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......
