Year: 1991
Make: honda
Model: crx
Engine Size: 1.5
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Ambient Temp: 88
Pressure Low: 45
Pressure High: 175

good morning gentlemen, newbie here w/ a question. just completed retro, 45/175 at idle vents at 38 F.
1500 rpm 40/200. 2500 rpm 45/305 vents at 42 ? a/c off 105/110. i guess i need a ( thats what they should be) from somebody. the flow chart in the helm manual is a little difficult to understand. the sight glass at 1500 rpm looks like water coming out of the faucet, not totally clear. i just think i'm either a little over or a little under. you guys are going to kill me but since somebody fumbled the ball i had to use those all in 1 cans. 11 oz refer, 2 oz oil, 1 oz other. the system holds 34 oz of r12. DIY says 85%, the forum uses 80%, but the mastercool manual says 60%???? i used 3 (14oz) cans bleeding each one down to both blow air out of the hoses and to drop a few oz's. any help would be appreciated very much.

Looks overcharged @ 80 degrees ambient. 1500 RPM should be closer to 25/250. Don't worry about the site glass as long as you have changed it to a r134a compatible drier.

thanks for the fast reply Tim, the drier is new and compatible. i'll gas down later this evening, and see if i can get the high side up to 250 as you suggested. thanks a lot. by the way how do i clean my gauges, internally. oil, dye, and all kinds of wonderful stuff is just oozing from my hoses. when i bought them from AMA i typed in that question but no response. by the way what in the way of vent temps should i expect. thanks again and great forum.

David, I think I answered the flushing of the hoses post a few minutes ago, but I don't see mentioon of a vacuum being pulled on this post, unless I just missed it. But check the tech tips link on this site and it will tell you how to charge the system to get the "best" vent temps and pressures..Hope this helps..

morning chick, still can't find that info on cleaning the hoses and manifold for gauges. but i did vacuum the system down 2 hours one day and 2 hours another day. weather here unfortunately not conducive to a/c work so i'll right in later w/ my results thanks again.

On the hoses, take the couplers off and use brake parts cleaner..Bow out with compressed air and let dry hanging..Should be fine..Hope this helps..

thanks chick, can i do the same for the manifold or will the brake cleaner hurt the seals? thanks again.

brake parts cleaner is the safest..I use it to clean mine all the time..Won't hurt the seals, but I always lube them after cleaning. I just spray the manifold and let them dry....Hope this helps..

alrighty gents hear we go. its 90 here in homestead. rpm 1500, 25/180 30 degree vent temps sight glass solid foam. 2 fans on radiator, doors and windows closed sitt'n in the sun! i'm a little concerned about sight glass though. this was the best i could manage after blow down. one more thing i don't think compressor is cycling off, after i let off the gas i can hear the compressor solenoid clicking away but it doesn't stop running? thanks again

Wouldn't vent temps of 20 deg F indicate that the evaporator is below freezing and isn't a frozen evaporator a not-so-good thing? Also, I though most LPCO switches turn the compressor off at around 25 psi on the low side in order to prevent the evaporator from freezing. Wouldn't a vent temp of 20 deg F indicate a low side pressure of under 20 psi?
