I've been doing a/c work on my cars for a good while, including a successful black death recovery, but one things still puzzles me... if you have a leaky schraeder valve that ends up venting the entire charge how much PAG oil do you need to add once repaired? It is easy to figure out like in the past where I had flushed the entire system and put on a new compressor. System capacity is 8 oz. so add 8 oz. But it's not clear how much oil leaked out with the charge. I am also going to replace the receiver/accumulator. Is there a rule of thumb for figuring out how much oil to add in situations like this?

Doubt you would lose much oil from a leaking scharder valve. In a case like this at most .5 ounces.

What about hold up in the old receiver/accumulator?

2 ounces max if accumulator is replaced. Drier a little less.
