OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! SNOW

Tom Greenleaf on Sun January 23, 2005 8:57 AM User is offline

Year: 2005
Make: H20
Model: Frozen
Engine Size: V8
Refrigerant Type: H20
Ambient Temp: 10F
Pressure Low: -5R
Pressure High: 10F
Country of Origin: United States

Talk about a Blizzard! I'm just West of Boston and can barely see out the lower windows! It's combined with Hurricane winds so it's lots of fun and not done yet!

I don't know how to measure this with the wind - good guess is two feet and another coming! This is somewhat local to the NorthEast. Kind of makes A/C seem silly right now but I'll be back - probably with a BROKEN back! Be good, Tom Greenleaf

PS: Wish us luck - this is nasty!

You are getting what we just got, 8 inches or is that 20.3 cm of snow with 40 mph, er 64 kmph winds with some pretty high drifts, maybe too much for my little John Deere blower, that little sucker kicks out a lot of snow and I can lift it with one hand and hang it out in the shed on the wall during the summer months. The plow came by leaving a three foot high hill in front of my 40 foot wide driveway and my belt got stretched in trying to break up that small mountain. Looked at those larger blowers, but where do you put those things when you don't need them. Ha, my neighbor has a smaller driveway than me and has a fully enclosed brand new John Deere blower, nice, but spending $15K for a couple of snowfalls doesn't make sense to me. I like shoveling snow, good exercise, I have about 3,000 square feet to clear. While living in the country, had a five foot blower on my tractor with a 1/10 mile driveway, that was nice and was done in minutes, have to move back into the country again.

Ha, my wife has shown an interest in snowmobiles, but until yesterday, they were worthless, last weeks Buyers Guide had over three pages of ads. We looked at some new ones, $10,000+ price tags, but used ones with only a thousand miles on them and a few years old were going for a thousand, now that would be a good investment. We had one for years back then, a pain in the butt for the spring, fall, and summer months, an almost impossible vehicle to work on or to move around, but buying one is almost a 100% guarantee, we won't get any snow, LOL. See Polaris wants a thousand bucks for a snowmobile outfit today, with all that advertising on those suits, they should pay us to wear them. But we are talking about cross country skies instead.

Enjoy the snow Tom, go out and buy a huge blower and a snowmobile, LOL, but leave your Town and Countries in the garage.

Had to take a break! It's still snowing! 2-3 FEET! I have C/K 2500 truck with 8' plow and a snow blower and need them both for this one. Light stuff but the wind is incredible! Back to it, Tom

Wow, I know the feeling, it was some 20 years ago we got a warm easterly wind over the lakes and the cities near the lakes got 6 feet of snow in a 24 hour period, a real wet heavy snow. We living further west only got 3 feet. Wasn't a problem for me back then has I had plenty of space to blow it, not sure if we got that again where I would put the stuff.

The cities had no choice to but haul it out to the farm fields. Driving was terrible as was like driving in a tunnel and every intersection had to creep through as couldn't see anything around the corners. But so far at least, it all melted away, eventually. Ha, makes a guy want to say, going to bed, wake me up after the snow melts.

It's over but I only finished others - more to do here. NOT as bad as the famous Blizzard 0f 1978 but the wind was a treat!
Thank goodness this was a weekend storm. Roads are pretty good as most folks did the right thing and stayed home leaving the crews to tend to the roads.

It's funny - people in Easern Mass tend to drive with one hand on a cell phone and the other out a window with a finger of choice employed! True to the area though folks help each other out

NOTICE: There were deaths with this one! Most seemed to be folks with kids in car running while adults cleared off the car. CO took out some kids! Tail pipes need to be clear first! If parents can do it, leave the children in(your home) while the car is warming up.----OUt doors!

Sorry to note that some of that happened. I refrain from complaining about my back. :-) Tom Greenleaf

I think CO is carbon monoxide A colorless, odorless, highly poisonous gas, CO, formed by the incomplete combustion of carbon or a carbonaceous material, such as gasoline. Another reason to remove the C out of HC's. Even with the lowered emissions and millions of vehicles on the road, we are all getting our share of CO's. I am amazed by the number of people that leave their vehicles running parked in front of the school for some 45 minutes so they will be first in line to pick up their kids. The brain damaging effects of CO are not clearly known, but may explain why there are so many idiots on the road. No under the vehicle exhaust systems were intended for extended idle and also makes a guy wonder why they put them under the vehicle where someone elses fallen off muffler in the deep snow and rip yours out.

With parents killing their own kids, makes you wonder about the survival of the fittest including the most intelligent. Also wonder about locking the kids up in these baby seats, both my two youngest kids had problems passing their drivers test, they were brainwashed into falling asleep when getting into a vehicle and some children were burned to death in an accident where no one could get the kids out tied up in those chairs. The safety child locks on cars are really dumb, not even an adult can get out with those things engaged, and so are power windows for that matter if you happen to drive into the drink and lose your battery power. Rolling down the window is the only way to release that pressure so you can get out, but everything is based on statistics that don't mean a damn thing to you if you fall outside of the curve.

I had Smiling-Dad duty today at my son's grade school - you know, greeting kids and getting their day started.
Started out at 33F - needed gloves to keep the fingers warm. Now 65F with an expected high of 70F. I feel sorry for you guys up north and east.
Is this rubbing it in?
