Congrat's again on the expansion Tim. But why not tie into the existing wall? All you had to do was remove the siding and add more perlins to the roof. A building like that is just an erector kit.

Russell:

Better clean your monitor - that adjacent building with the flat roof is STUCCO.

Russell,

It looks to me as if they did tie into the steel structure behind the addition. I am sure they had to skin the addition and install locking doors before they could remove the skin of the original wall and expose the inventory.

We would not gain anything tieing into the Southern most building and that section is the power room and restrooms. Also have the fire suppression stuff in that room. As Bohica2xo has stated that building is stuuco. Really no need to bust all that up just to get to the rest room. I think this will provide us the extra space to increase the inventory like we want to do.

Hey, TRB at your age...may wish to reconsider that door for the bath......those extra dozen steps can be rather 'tricky' at times......

I just love construction projects! For me, the worst part of any construction project is to see the sheetrock going up, covering up all the beautiful electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work. My own house is a friggen disaster, but once everything is done (if that ever happens), I won't know what the heck to do with myself.

Since your expanding, that must mean business is good, which is great to hear. You and your father certainly deserve it!

You mentioned the electrical still needs to be put in, which brings me to the question if your code requires explosion proof devices (Bohica feel free to chime in here, since this is an area of your expertise) since this only seems to be a storage area. I should ask if your code even requires explosion proof devices in the shop, considering MVAC work is relatively light; it's not like you're dropping gasoline tanks.

I like the nice copper plumbing work.

Can't believe the condition of your truck. Amazing how nice "desert" cars stay without the abuse from the elements -- other than occasional sand storms.

Good luck and thanks for sharing.

Joe

Tim, 125,000 on a Toyota pickup I am glad to hear that you almost have it broken in. I have 333,000 on mine with no car payment for about the last 8 years it drives better every day. I notice you guys are wearing long sleeves out there don't tell me you had a cold snap and dipped into the 80's. lol
The shop looks great it's good to see good people doing well.

Heck we were down in the sixty's the other day, freezing at night. But we are back to wearing shorts again.

Worst thing on vehicles out here is the interior. Heat just kills the dash area so a good dash mat or window shade really helps.

Only electrical we need is a few additional outlets for a couple shipping systems we plan to move out there. skylights and a couple 8 foot lights fixtures have done what was needed for lighting. We ran all new legs for each requirement. As stated the power room was just on the other side of the wall. So everything is in code and we made the powers that be happy!

JJM:

Out there in AZ, I think 3 prong plugs are still considered a luxury... LOL

Actually, there is no explosion proof requirement in the mechanical repair shops. Now, if you have a paint booth.....

Even gas stations have plain old conduit everywhere except at the actual pumps. Some cities have local regs in excess of the NEC - I suppose NYC does, but I have never worked there.

Most people misunderstand what explosion proof electrical stuff is designed to do. The assumption is that it is safer, and cannot cause a spark... in reality, it must be strong enough to withstand an explosion without failing in such a way that it will expose the wires inside. An explosion proof motor for instance is just as likely to overheat and start a fire as an open motor - however, if the fumes from the spray booth build up inside the motor and go off, the motor must sustain the explosion without spraying sparks and copper everywhere. Explosion proof boxes are thick castings, but are not any better sealed than regular outdoor fittings - they are tough enough to contain a small explosion though.

TRB says, "Hey what happened to all the politics."

I'm just waiting for a DumbA** comment about the high cost of gasoline and the evil oil companys' record obscene profits, the bankrupt economy Bush has caused with the old "Tax Cuts for the Rich" rant, the "Vietnam like quagmire" going on in Iraq, and of course what is GWB gonna do about this dang weather?

I'll just have to be patient.......Lefties are like women and city busses, sooner or later another one will come along..... :-)

I still talk politics, but I discuss them with my refrigerator, it constructs a far less predictable argument than one or two here, is better travelled and informed.

Some cant tell Lefties from Nazis, and really cant comprehend that there is anything inbetween
