To eliminate any possibility of problems due to this new exploit.
Open command prompt: Start>Programs>Accy)Command prompt
At the command prompt type.
regsvr32.exe /u shimgvw.dll
This will disable the execution of the file used for wmf files that is vulnerable
That for XP and Server 03 machines only correct?

-------------------------
Same file is also on 2000 Pro. It is likely to be vulnerable too. Might depend on service pack and other things that are installed whether you have this file.
Can't say for 98 and back yet let me try an old 98 box I have.
Edited to add:
CERT advisory here:
http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/181038
CERT advisory shows another way to do this from the run command in the start menu.
"However, other versions of the the Windows operating system may be at risk as well."
Edited to add:
Looks like 98SE does not use this meta file dll so all them old boxes should be ok. Search for the shimgvw.dll to see if it is installed.

What? Destroy a multi billion dollar a year industry making flawed crap and then someone else selling the flawed fix so someone else can sell the real fix. Till they find out that is flawed. You must be a commie or something (thats what my dad would say if I said something like that).
Besides what would we do with all the geeks? Dress them in tuxes and ship to Antartica to fool PETA that the penguins are OK?
