Playing with a Dell X5 Pocket PC.

Ha, if I don't have enough problems, got it cheap enough as the GPS Pocket Navigator the current version came with it plus a bunch of accessories. Wanting to start from scratch, this unit came from Dell with WM 2003 installed, but the companion disk was all 2002. Spent over an hour with Dell yesterday to see if I could buy the matching CD, what a run around and a waste of time, they said they didn't even have a dusty CD laying around, good grief, this thing is hardly a year old already. Kept on insisting I buy their X51, said, thanks, I think, and goodbye.

Did find the companion CD or the contents of it on the bay for $2.49, in a way, a waste of money, but a real time saver. In trying this program, it said I already had 2003 installed and wouldn't do anything, but did give me the file name of the image. I plugged that file name into google and found some great sites and also the latest A05 rev. of this file with instructions on how to hold down four buttons after downloading the file to a CF formatted card and releasing two of the buttons. Worked for me the first time, removed the old ROM and installed the new one, now I have a fresh start, can post these sites if anyone is interested, can find just about anything on the web if you are lucky enough.

MS does have a free download for the ActiveSync, but learned quickly to use ver. 3.8, 4.1 doesn't work with this thing, did get 3.6 on the CD, that didn't work either. Should be a logical way to deal with a computer, but the only thing that seems to work is to play with it. Scanned through the 140 page manual that came with it, lots of repetition with nothing about restoring the OS. Got this unit for my wife as medical translation software is available and also wanted the GPS, took about six months of peeking before I found the right deal with everything included for about 20% the cost of a new one. Nothing depreciates faster than a computer.
