New guy saying hi

chris142 on Wed May 17, 2006 9:56 PM User is offline

Country of Origin: United States

My name is Chris.

I live in Apple valley, Ca (in the desert) and work at a 2 man A/C and Radiator shop. I used to drive 18 wheelers but needed a change so I went to work at the rad/ ac shop. At the time there was another guy doing A/C work and I did the radiator swaps, water pumps etc.

The A/C guy had to quit because of health problems and I got thrown into A/C work headfirst! I enjoy it (most of the time anyway) and we wont cut corners. We won't use a rebuilt compressor unless there is no other choice. We strive to do things correct the first time and have many repeat customers.

I'm paid hourly so I can take my time and not be rushed.

I have kept my CDL curant and am slowly fixing up a 62 Peterbilt as a hobby. The truck has an 855 cu in Cummins engine rated @ 280hp, a 5 speed main trans and a 3 speed auxilery transmission. You actully reach through the steering wheel to shift both transmissions at the same time! The truck is almost exactly like the one used in the Spielberg movie "Duel".

Having the CDL also helps in the shop. We have several trucking companies around and often I get to go get a truck and bring it back to the shop which gets me out of the shop for a breather.

Anywho I'll shut up now. Just thought I'd say "Hi".

Heres the 62

yes. Both boxes are overdrives. The main is actully a double over, .63 or something like that and the aux trans is a .83 od. Rear ratio is 6.17 and it'l still scoot. Unfortunatly with a mechanical engine it needs to be ran between 1700-2100 rpm or I could start melting pistons.

I have another pic thats a little hard to read

Welcome aboard it is nice to see new members! Just so you know I the one that causes all the problems around here and can't spell very well! So if you need the pot stirred up I'm your man.

When the guys across the pond see the speed you were driving at they are going to have a fit. Let alone snapping images at the same time. Also do not listen to a thing Chick says about me, he lies!

PS: 800 X 600 is a good image size for our format.

Not a big deal post what you have.

You can download an image editor from Tucows for free if you want. I use PhotoShop which is not a free program to edit my images. If you ever have any questions feel free to ask!

Nice rig Chris

Thanks for sharing the pics. Don't see much roof mount A/C anymore.

If you are looking for a good free photo editor, try Irfan View. It is a free download, and is easy to use. I have been using it for a long time.

The GIMP for Windows is free, and does a lot of what Photoshop does.

Irfan View has a screen capture program that puts the one the comes with Corel to shame and does anyone really know how to use Photoshop?

Bigchris on Thu May 18, 2006 5:39 AM User is offline

I don't think there's much that you can't do with either Photoshop or The Gimp if you're willing to invest the time to learn it but IrfanView is more intuitive and all that's needed to shrink or crop a photo.

Welcome aboard chris142!

A few suggestions when editing picture files...
Make a copy of the original and save it elsewhere until you get the hang of the editing program.
The editing program changes the picture on your screen, but not the file on disk, until you Save or Save As.
If you want to preserve the original, use Save As with a different name. Save will overwrite the original.
When you open a .jpg file to edit it, try to make all your changes before you save the file. Jpg files are compressed and everytime you open and save them they are recompressed which will deteriorate the picture quality after multiple saves. Copies don't have this problem.

Have fun!
Chris
