BMW a/c diagnostics

Hi.
Was doing a bit of travelling yesterday, when I came across a guy in a small garage - they were east europeans I think,
we got to talking about OBDII's and eobd's when he asked me about what I do to `open the valves' after charging bmw's .
Now I'm still quite new to vehicle a/c, but have had to on occasion spin the pump by hand on a bmw several times b4 the clutch would engage.
This guy told me also that he had `cracked' software which gave him access to a/c control commands such as `open valves' and `activate clutch' without the engine running.
This sounds like useful stuff. Any of you guys aware of this , or using it?
I recently purchased an AGV4500 hoping it might aid a little in diags, wonder if it might help.

Thanks
Myles
