I'll Give Them the Whole Penny.........

GM Tech on Tue March 27, 2007 9:38 AM User is offline

My latest pet peeve - Why oh why won't they learn??? I see it lots of places- usually at the convenience stores- I once stood in line and told the cashier- I'll give you the whole penny for a two-liter pop- she says the price is 79 cents. I say - "That's not what your sign says" she says yes it is-- I explain the difference between a cent sign and a dollar sign- I state it is first grade math- why can't you understand it- I also state that this place of all places should understand tenths of a cent- it is a gas station for God's sake-- I have had a school teacher behind me in line- she says- you know- I think I know what he is talking about. I say you are embarrassing our community- this station is along the interstate- out-of-towners are going to think we are from Hicksville-- get an education- When I travel to a foreign country- seeing the dollar amount means everything when I pay the bill- I can figure it out- so what does a foreigner here do when he sees this massive descrepancy?? I feel like holding them to their advertised price and standing in line until they sell it to me or change the sign.....Why does this bother me so??????

-------------------------
The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

Perhaps the foreigner is too puzzled as to why litre got transformed to liter in the US to really care.

It appears I'm becoming part of the dumbed down crowd because it took me a few times to figure out your pet peeve was on this and it's as glaring as can be. I guess I've become so accustomed to seeing things priced like this so frequently it doesn't even phase me anymore. But the price of that bottle of soda is indeed 79/100 of a cent, or $0.0079 according to that sign. Even more ironic is this sign is in a gas station, probably where fractional cents were born.

Maybe it would've helped to illustrate would it be correct gasoline at 2.79¢ per gallon... I think then they would get it.

I wonder what would happen if this issue were brought before the state consumer affairs department... nevermind... something tells me they'd be far too confused.

If it is indeed 79 cents for a 2 liter bottle of generic cola, price is way too high, sells for 59 cents here. Ha, should be banned anyway, drink the stuff and burp, a wad of CO2 comes out.
