I am looking for recommendations for a small portable space heater. I would like to have one with a quiet fan and a low odor heating element.
The other day I picked up and returned a small Lasko ceramic heater that filled the room with a acid smell. Now I wonder if all the ceramic heaters will have the acid smell.
I installed a heater core once that had the same acid smell and the smell never went away.

Electric, right? After I finally insulated my attached garage, was planning on running my furnace ductwork out there with a switch off vent, but too much work. Besides when it got 30 below outside was 40 below inside the uninsulated garage, now it stays above freezing, so I just got electric space heaters. I like the old Titan milkhouse heaters they still make, but are large, have one over 40 years old and still working well, costs around 15 bucks. But I got a couple of Holmes that are like a 5" cube, all these thing max out at 1,500 watts, the Holmes has a two speed fan and two wattage settings with a thermostat. Didn't notice any odors, but with anything new, have to break them in to burn off that production stuff, normally a couple of hours at full speed should do it.
In the summer, much nicer, garage stays much cooler, added screened storm doors, have a couple of screened windows and keep the main door closed, use to get eaten alive by mosquitoes, but since they really built up around here the mosquito population greatly decreased. Insulation really works, put 18" up in the ceiling.
Finally found a ceramic heater that does not have the strong acid smell.
Holmes model # HCH-4163 $20.00 made in China.(crap)
Small steel box heater seems to be targeted for hardware stores.
Not sure what to think about the ceramic-aluminum heating element and how it works.
