Well, after 20 years of smoking 2 to 3 packs Marlboro Reds per day I finally quit on January 8 - 2008 and not even a New Years Resolution.

The way I see it, had no pills or patches when I started, so why would I need any to quit.

This is how I did it. Right before I opened my last pack, said to myself after this packs gone I'll quit.
Well, before finishing the first smoke, said to myself I'll finish this pack then buy one pack of Bugler, smoke all of it and then quit.

3 days later after smoking that roll your own non filtered crap was glad to quit, trust me.

Just goes to prove that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.

Saving around 70 dollars a week. That's a lot of money!

Good deal, It's amazing how much it affects your breathing and taste buds.

Rode an 18 speed bicycle about 6 miles non stop a couple weeks ago, but man was I tired and sore all over, especially my legs and back of course, but great exercise for a 20 year smoker!

Thanks Karl, been told that alcohol and certain drugs are easier to quit than smoking.

Tim, the bike I'm riding only cost a couple hundred dollars. That would only be a down payment for the chain on yours.

It's not about the bike! Riding is what makes me happy. Of course where I ride the $ 200.00 Wal-Mart Special would last about 10 minutes.

Tim,

We all make our own choices in life. Down here, this couple hundred dollar bike will last a long time, even on some of the local bike/ ATV trails we have.

Many species of trees and animals around here along with numerous breathtaking Parks, rivers and lakes not to mention the other scenery we have.

Born and raised in the same town, Toccoa Georgia, of the strongest man in the world, Paul Edward Anderson who proved in the 1956 Olympics to hold records which still have never been broken.
At that time in 1956 the Russians snickered at him as he not only attempted but did an unheard of lift which blew the minds of everyone in that stadium in the Soviet Union. Not only could he outlift his oponents but could do more than a couple reps of several styles of weightlifting.

He was a kind hearted Christian man who opened a Youth home in Vidalia georgia.

Dont remember him personally but my mother does.

From down in Tucson this week. There is a event called Spring Fling each year around this time. I did not do this ride but would love to try the trail sometime.

Wisconsin added a buck tax per pack at the first of this year, but it backfired on them, caused a lot of people to quit smoking so now they have a budget shortfall. The previous 75 cent tax per pack was supposed to be used to buy health care for kids that don't have it, somehow that money got lost.

Now the big deal is to make bars smoke free, unhealthy so they say, but simple logic states these bars should be also alcohol free as many death related "accidents" are caused by drunken drivers, but I think the state likes those fines and doesn't want to part with that. Get many calls telling me to vote yes for this smoking ban, just tell them, I don't give a damned, I don't go to bars anyway. Not really sure who this group of people are, guess they want to save their lungs while killing their brain cells and liver in the process.

Our hospital has all kinds of signs saying they are smoke free, well maybe, except for that huge incinerator that is putting black smoke into the air burning all kinds of plastic crap.

It's not fun living in a land loaded with hypocrites, to get along, you just do what you are told. Got a kick out of that marine whose picture is suppose to be the landmark of the Iraq war, on the news last night. Every scene, he was lighting up, poor guy is probably a nervous wreck. He should quit and just down a fifth of booze, because that is the American way.

You mean like this? That was from my last attempt to see if a fat boy could fly. Elbow did not hurt near as much as my hip and butt which was black and blue for about two weeks. I still feel the ribs a little if I ride a rough trial. But I'm back and had a great ride last night. Need to get as many in as I can before the heat hits.

NJ did this recently. Family up there owns the tavern that my father and grandfather bought. Now people have to go out to the patio to smoke. Last year they added a deck on the other side of the building, so now people can smoke by both entrances. You're right, it's such a ridiculous law--who cares if people in bars smoke, most of them smoke anyway (though, I think NJ banned smoke in all public buildings). I don't smoke, nor do I drink, and I couldn't care less what other people did in bars or smoking sections of restaurants.

I roll my own using a special blend of trash, coal, gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, ethanol, natural gas, methane, volcanic ash, fuel oil, forest products and a secret mixture of burnt toxic waste. To enhance the flavor can always drive out to where they are open spreading liquid manure or drive close to a turkey or pig farm.

Can avoid 2nd hand smoke in public areas, but can't avoid 2nd hand air with very limited air intake that is loaded with virus's and germs, especially on the airlines.

How are you healing Tim? Still hurting?

Just a little soreness in the ribs if I ride a rocky trial. Back on 2004 I think I cracked a rib or two when I landed on a big rock. Now if I crash hard like this last time. It seems to aggravate the ribs. The elbow is healed for the most part. Hip is pretty much pain free these days. So I guess I'm as healed as I can get!
