Kicking around a Name change.

TRB on Sun May 24, 2009 6:54 PM User is offlineView users profile

For years we have kicked around a name change manly because we offer more than products sold just within the state of Arizona. Which my father thinks the name "Arizona" Mobile Air reflects to a certain degree and I can understand his point. We have been Arizona Mobile Air Inc. for well over 35 years and I think keeping a known name means something. Then again with the Internet business being a important part of our company a more US or auto a/c related based name might be a good idea. We do not ship international and don't plan to at this time!!!

So in keeping with the theme of AMA let's hear some suggestions. Don't think we will every totally remove the name Arizona Mobile Air Inc. But could see a DBA in the future if a proper name could be determined.

The web name is good... AMA dba A/C Kits.

I know the Arizona name implies regional, but it also implies extreme heat (desert) experience.

Desert Air
Desert Heat A/C
Desert Tough A/C
Desert Tested A/C
Desert Ready A/C
Desert Mirage A/C
Grand Canyon A/C
Cactus Air

Arizona Mobile Air National Limited, Inc.

Nothing says HOT better than Arizona. I have a long time friend in Colorado that does not believe it snows in Dolan Springs AZ - he sees AZ as the surface of the sun...

If you think you want another name for the business, you already have a great one. Bohringer.

The name sounds like a decades old, responsible company. From the times when a man was proud to put his name on the building. Like Douglas Aircraft, Ford Motor Co., Boeing, Colt...

I think something like:

Bohringer's Arizona Mobile Air Might be a good start.

Or simply Bohringer's for internet sales if you are trying to shed the AZ image.

While the Bohringer's do own and are responsible for our place. It does take more than just the Bohringer family to make things work around here! I really would like to keep the name along the lines with the aberrations "AMA". We have answered the phones that way for 30 plus years. Not knocking any suggestion as I would not have posted for ideas if this was something which could be easily figured out! I would place a bet right now that in the end we will stick with what we have now!

Penguin Mobile Air? A new logo with Chick's favorite flightless bird smiling while sitting on a block of ice next to a cactus?

There is brand equity in the Arizona Mobile Air name that cannot be discounted, particularly at the local level. I don't know what percent your Internet business is, but I imagine most of your revenues come from local transactions, and changing a name that many have come to trust could lead to brand confusion.

I like "Arizona Mobile Air International". You still keep AMA brand equity with a name that signifies you're more than a local shop. You also wouldn't need to make major changes to your signage, preprinted items like invoices and note pads, logo items such as pens, license plate frames, coffee cups, keychains, etc. Problem is, I realize you don't wish to ship internationally.

Brand equity is hard to build... I would tread very carefully in departing from the AMA name in any way.

You could also create another division... like "Bohringer's - A Division of AMA" for Internet business, along the lines of what Bohica suggested.

I thought of International as well, but since Tim doesn't want to fool with exports, it's a headache, National was my choice with the initials AMAN. Now if air can be changed to Environment, that would give Tim an AMEN!

Oi!! what happened to my post.... It's blank!

Anyway as for names, Hows about Motorcool US, American Automotive Air Conditioning, Americool, or National automotive airconditioning supplies....

You'll need a slogan too.... Heavy on quality, light on the pocket, Where old fasioned service is free or Helping the American motorist save on maintainance...

Tim:

While I admire your modesty, the place truly is Bohringer's - it would not exist without them.

"Bohringer's Mobile Air" for internet sales, and keep AMA locally. Joe is right about brand loyalty.

So, how many different meanings can we come up with for the acronym AMA?

Adams Mobile Air (Jack would love that)
Arctic Mobile Air
Affordable Mobile Air
American Mobile Air
American Made Air

If you want to keep the AMA signature, could just change Arizona to Armenian, Afghanistanian, Automotive, or American.
