While pulling a vacuum on the Olds Friday, the gauge wouldn't go below 22 on the vacuum scale. I thought I had a leak or that my pump was bad.
My neighbor brought his vacuum pump over and hooked it up.
At this time I noticed that my low pressure gauge was not calibrated and was stuck at about 4 psi. That explained why I couldn't get a 30 on the gauge. I calibrated my gauge and completed the vacuum and fill with his gauge set and my 134 adapters.
Yesterday I helped my neighbor repair the AC on his car. He noticed that my gauge was not calibrated and was stuck at 15 psi. I again tried to calibrate, but it would only go to 10 psi and not 0.
I did leave a partially charged can, about half full, on the yellow hose for about 8 hours after repairs to my daughter's PT Cruiser last month..
Would leaving the can connected to the hose screw up the gauge?
Do I need a new gauge or can this one be repaired?

Quality is never an accident it is always the result of intelligent effort.
What brand of gauges are they?

I assume that they are Master Cool.
They came with the DIY kit.

Yep. I would call Mastercool and have them send you a new gauge.

TRB,
Is it possible that my leaving the can connected caused the failure?
If I caused the problem, I want to avoid that in the future.
Or is it a quality issue?

Quality issue: No everyone has a defective item now and then. I don't store gauges with refrigerant still in the lines.
