Dogs: NO DOGS ALLOWED!

NickD on Sat August 30, 2003 1:57 PM User is offline

Year: 2001
Make: German Shepherd
Model: German Lines
Engine Size: 4 banger
Refrigerant Type: Tongue drips
Ambient Temp: 99F butt

Dogs: NO DOGS ALLOWED! pursuant to Town Ordinance 19.02 under penalty of 25.02 General Code.

Daughter decided to have my grandson's two year old birthday at her city park.

So what do I do with Dok?

Not even allowed to leave him in the car and park anywhere the park grounds.

Reminded her when she was a kid, we could bring Erik anywhere, he learned how to climb those now outlawed steep slide ladders and coast down like any other kid.

Reminds me of the military down south, had two great, well they use to be colored, and we didn't dare use the word, "black" buddies, and we couldn't go anywhere together off base. But it was fine if they got their asses shot off for this fine country of ours. Ha, they have more freedom now, but it must be dogs now on the s**T list. Dok is more behaved than any human, and doesn't take a crap or piss on the walls like you find in many park restrooms. But they won't let my best friend in even though he is a thousand times more courteous and neat than the vast majority of people you run into nowadays.

Tell you, this whole world is going crazy. Guess if my daughter wants me to go to my grandson's birthday party, she better find someplace else.

Dogs must be kept on a lead in our park but the park keepers turned a blind eye to Smokie, sharing their biscuits with him instead, Ha! he even got a free ice cream out of the ice cream vendor there, after all we were his best customers!

A dog is far more civilised than most folk that I come across. There is no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners.

I'd be inclined to ignore these daft rules.

Thats the way it is nowadays. A couple of people let their dogs crap everywhere, and it spoils it for the rest of us. Of course, it's alright for snotty kids to run amok, shouting and screaming, but a well behaved pet, no way.

Took the ferry to the Isle of Wight the other day. They ask you to leave your dog in the car, or take it to a special room on the boat. It was about 28* so couldn't leave her in the car, so went to 'the room'. Trouble is, there's no food, drink or toilets there, you have to go to the main passenger decks to get anything or take a pee. So I take her to the main deck with me, amongst all the screeching kids going on a trip.

Just sitting down with my tea and biscuits when I get told to go back to 'the room' as the dog was a health hazzard (even though she doesn't drink out of their cup) and I'm breaking the law! I told the guy if she crapped on the floor I'd clean it up, which is more than anyone who was sea-sick would do.

Just wear a pair of dark sunglasses and have a white cane in your hand. No one will bother you....just leave the picture taking to someone else.

What I really liked about my times in the UK, in particular the rural countryside, were the pubs that sponsored the "family" atmosphere. You could go in to have a pint and a meal and there would be kids and dogs together, both generally well behaved (at least the dogs). Nowhere were there the typical US health fanatics complaining about dog hair or dander getting into the food or yelling about unsanitary conditions. I really enjoyed that. It seemed so sensible.

The owner of a bar that I occasionally visit usually has his dog in the bar. It is completely illegal, but he is generally pretty well behaved. The only problem is, if you get up to go to the restroom, the dog may be on the bar drinking your beer when you return

Mike, we have a pub near us that is literally someones front room. It's really tiny, in a tiny house, with a bar in the corner. Dogs are welcome, you can lay on a chaise lange and pick a record (you remember them don't you?) from their collection. Most of them date from the 50's, and the record deck doesn't look much newer. NickD would love it, although he's gone all 'new' on us, so would probably expect an MP3 player and plasma screen.

Only problem is, the landlord is so old he's got the shakes, so you lose a bit of your pint by the time you get it.

We used to visit a pub like that over on the England/ Wales border, set right on the bank of the River Dee, on a busy night you had to queue up outside to get to the bar, sadly that closed some time ago so now we frequent the Paradise Micro Brewery in Wrenbury, converted from an old dairy you can sit , drink and wach them brewing the beer. Smoke had his own beer bowl.

Dogs are a local thing around here, each town has it's own rules. It's liberal around here, Dok has already been in several stores and people just run up to pet him. Ha, wish some of those women that came up would pet me too. LOL.

It was funny at the Chevy dealer last week. Dok was in the Bird and the salesman went up to say hello. Dok snapped at him, not really trying to bite him, but just doggy talk for keep your ass away from my car. The next day when we went to pick up the Cavalier, we shook hands and I asked the salesman if he wanted to shake hands with Dok too. He said, I am not going near that dog. I replied, I bet you a hundred bucks, if I let him out of the car, he will be the friendliest dog you ever met. He was extremely apprehensive, but what the hell, the customer is always right, right? The salesman was shaking standing a distance from the Bird, I let Dok out, he ran over to the salesman and started to lick his hand. The salesman finally got brave and patted him on the head.

But that salesman or anyone for that matter better not mess with Dok's car.
