I sure hope you've had a chance to read this letter. It's long but very well thought out. I wish I had a congressman as intelligent and patriotic as this guy.
In view of GW's "you're either with us or you're against us" foreign policy, I've got to wonder how many other countries are going to decide that they don't want their data held hostage by a foreign company!
I'm with you George, BUSH/CHENEY 04

Thank you! I'd never have seen it without my new home page, Groklaw! I've decided to spend a few months going deep and I've got the latest RH and Mandrake distros. What do you think of Suse?
LOL. I've been reading Groklaw for some time now. I must have missed that link.
I haven't used Suse much. We have a couple (about 2-3) systems running it. And thats about my experience with it. I'm mainly a RH user, as far as Linux goes. I've used Mandrake in the past, and it works too. I've branched into Fedora, and I've joined the Fedora developer's project.
I'm still doing to the math on whether to go with RH WS or just toss it and run something else like Fedora or another Linux distro. Still, Novell bought out Suse. I like that a big name is behind a Linux distro. I just wonder if they gain market share, if they will do the same thing Redhat did.

They will follow the money, wherever that leads them. Suse like RH is an IBM business partner. I've been wondering if IBM has any plans to make a run for the desktop software market. They own Lotus and a port of Notes or Smartsuite over to Linux could leave Redmond gasping for oxygen.
Later edit: I've been looking over the Fedora project and it looks like fun but the ISO media format would be tough for me because I'm still running dialup.

I sure hope this Linux stuff works as I turned on the new storefront today. Still need to work a few bugs out of the system but like the new format.

Hey Chris, e-mail me a postal address and I'll burn a copy for you. It looks like Redhat, but some of the user interface is different. Mostly cosmetic stuff.
I'm going to edit this once I get your e-mail.... xxxxxx@NOxxxSPAM.net (remove the no spam...)
Tim, I wish you the best with your new storefront. It will help when I buy a new evap from you in the spring!

Hey Tim, no software is perfect but if I've got a problem I'd rather have a thousand people that can fix it than one claiming it's my fault for "not using it the way the developers planned". That was the answer I got the last time I reported an IE bug er excuse me feature.
Chris, play nice with Tim.

I still think I must have got the only good set of disks out of Microsoft as I do not have the problems you guys seem to have. I do not use any version of 98 which may be the reason. 2000 Pro or XP pro have been flawless for over two years. I do run the updates every couple weeks on all the work stations and my XP box at home auto updates. Service packs get updated only after checking with my IT friend. Our stats program which is on a Linux server seems to be working again so there's some progress. I'm not to worried about the storefront as my hosting provider supplies this storefront (Miva) for free. I got talked into ProductCart last year which worked but was a pain in the A**. Still have a couple function issues to work out which I will be working on over the next few days.
I did download Opera 7. something the other night and doing a quick check it ran fine. Still do not like the email options.

Did you say you downloaded Oprah? Man if I were going to download I would have downloaded Britney!

My wife's month-old install of XP suddenly started locking up at wierd random intervals a couple of days ago requiring a hardware reset which generated some intense heat and discontent directed at me for "wasting all that money". To make a long story short, it turned out that her mouse cable had developed an intermittent break and another mouse cured the problem.
This of course is not a knock on Microsoft. It is simply a reminder of the importance of the mouse in maintaining your mate's good humor.
XP has this neat feature that lets them deactivate your computer. I think that was a brilliant idea by Microsoft. Now they can remotely turn your computer off and prevent the hackers from getting into your system!
- Microsoft also could use the anti-piracy technology to deactivate the operating system if a business customer were to fail to pay fees under a new licensing plan, under which customers must upgrade every two years. ft>

I agree that is an excellent idea. Shucks those computers would be just scrap metal and plastic without Microsoft, right? And Mr. Gates isn't getting any younger so he needs to look out for his financial security too, just like the rest of us. I keep seeing these businessmen being led away in handcuffs for taking all their company's money and leaving none to pay the bills. Why shouldn't Microsoft get their money before the boss wastes it on frivolous things?
Give me a break!!! No one is going to shut off your computer if you properly own the software. If Microsoft finds someone illegally using it's products then they should have some recourse. Not really happy that they may have the ability to turn off the OS! But it makes no sense to turn someone's system off which is using the OS properly. If they do then it's a very poor business decision on their part.

SCO is suing their customers as part of a business strategy. That's not a good business decision either.
