I need to know what are normal operating pressures for r404a ... are they extremely high compared to automotive?

r12 24PSI=24 * 200PSI= 138*

R134 24PSI= 27* 200PSI=131*

R404A 24PSI= -10* 200PSI= 88*

Are guages that read up to 800 psi on the highside overkill ... can i just use r-12 guages?

They are for automotive use! Wait until the CO2 system are out then a 1000 plus gauge set may be needed.

the reason that i ask is that i am helping a marine corps unit. They have a robinair 17800B machine (Automotive) that they are using for equipment that is meant to be serviced by commercial service equipment. for their r134a items i am selling them retrofit adapters so they can use existing hoses and couplers with their machine. The marine that i am working with said he also needs guages that go over the regular 500 psi . he just got out of refrigeration school and just wondering if he is crazy or if it really neccesary.
