Laminated ID card question?

HerkyJim on Sun April 04, 2004 8:50 PM User is offline

Maybe one of you knowledgeable folks can help me with this...I have an ID card that I have to pull out of my wallet at least once every workday. It is quite a few years old and becoming delaminated at the edges. It is basically just a piece of paper between two sheets of plastic which was placed in a heat source , heated a bit, squeezed, and trimmed after it cooled.

If I take it back to an issuing place to have it relaminated, they will insist upon replacing it with a new one which probably would have the history of the universe and me encoded into it in some fashion. I like the old one just fine; thank you. Besides, it has a vintage picture of me---youthful, fit, tanned, handsome, etc.---sort of.

So what can I do about the old one? I was thinking maybe there is some laminating adhesive still there where it has loosened and a warm iron or something like that to stick it back. If that might work, what kind of heat source, iron, soldering iron, etc? How hot? What kind of backup.

Or maybe some airplane glue and a toothpick? Any ideas? Thanks!

You can purchase adhesive backed laminating sheets at office supply stores like Office Depot and encapsulate your present card without doing anything to it.

Good luck

Ha, I wonder if the statue of limitations are up. I hated my military ID card, my head was shaven, I was scared fecessless (well a similar word we used back then), and my facial expression was poor to say the least. Getting drunk with my buddies one night, we got on the subject of our ID cards, there was a candle burning, so I took my card out and ignited it. My buddies panicked and said I would be thrown in the stockade. I just laughed and said, I will see the CO and get a new card telling him my old one was stolen. My hair was much longer, put on my class A's, posed the way I wanted to, and got a real nice picture of myself. My buddies seeing my new ID card were all envious of it. So all of them did the same thing. The next day, there was a long line in the CO's office, and the CO said, what in the hell is going on here with all these stolen ID's. LOL.

I make a point to wear a white shirt and a tie for my driver's ID and don't pay attention to the officer when he says, say cheese.
