Re: Metric to SAE/standard A/C plumbing questions

The Swagelok straight union fittings available to go from a 8mm OD to a 3/8" (-6) OD tube can be had in 316 stainless steel, or brass versions. I'm pretty sure both are harder metals than the aluminum tubing, so either should work mechanically according to Swagelok's website. Which would be a ...

Re: Metric to SAE/standard A/C plumbing questions

Seems like the best solution is to use the Swagelok transition fitting to connect the larger and smaller tubes instead of TIG welding or brazing them. Although any time you combine (stainless steel?) ferrule-type fittings with aluminum tubing (electrolysis factor due to dis-similar metals), you'll h...

I'm not familiar with the acronym "MIO." What does it mean, "Metric Input Output?"

Re: Should I try control valve or just replace compressor

ok, I'll replace all of those parts and the suction/discharge line as it does have mufflers. Sounds good. I'll flush the evaporator and its lines. I definitely want to do it right and not have to go back into it later so I don't mind spending a little more for a better chance at success. Nothing wo...

Re: Can I drive with my system before filling it up

I did some digging around when you mentioned the cut-off switch. I’ve found it does apparently have one but I’m struggling to figure it out. I read somewhere else that it’s likely to be on the drier (accumulator?) and after I pulled a cap off I found two electrical spade type connectors, which I’m ...

Re: Should I try control valve or just replace compressor

Finally got back to this car. Recovered and recharged to oem level. No help, still poor cooling. Pulled orifice and it looks like this. Not a good sign, this is going to be entire system as John described? Based on the look of the OT, I'm not surprised that the cooling performance is poor. Little t...

Re: Leak detector dye colors

A red refrigerant dye (NOT with stop leak) that FJC describes as "visual" is available. It's not fluorescent, and it doesn't glow brightly like the greenish yellow dye does using a UV light and special eyeglasses in a darkened shop. It might be sufficient for your purposes, though.

Re: Leak detector dye colors

Most of what you'll find for MVAC systems is the greenish yellow or green fluorescent dye, and sometimes but rarely, fluorescent red. The much better option IMHO is a decent-quality "sniffer"--electronic leak detector--that can sense even minute refrigerant leaks that the dye won't show. W...

Re: AC issues

Seems to me the refrigerant continues to leak out, shutting down the compressor. I don't think heating-up the car had anything to do with it. Hopefully, there was no sealer in the refrigerant can you put in. Sealer can destroy a system right quick. I suggest not jumping the clutch to force-engage th...
