Re: CLUTCHED compressor shear pin?

Hey guys, so I have the old compressor out. Oil looks healthy, no metal. But upon trying to weigh the old compressor oil (I KNOW I should have used volume instead of weight  ), I was only able to get roughly .8oz out. I'm sure if I tried long enough I could get closer to 1oz out, but I was exp...

Re: CLUTCHED compressor shear pin?

Okay, answered my own question. I removed the fender liner so I could stare directly at the compressor. There's a rubber dampener between the compressor shaft and the outer portion of the clutch. That dampener has broken free from the compressor shaft. So even though the compressor clutch is engagin...

Re: CLUTCHED compressor shear pin?

Oh, and the thought of a slipping clutch did cross my mind as well. As did a stuck open metering device, but I cannot see that allowing zero pressure differential.

CLUTCHED compressor shear pin?

2013 Mazda CX-9 3.7 with rear AC, 203,000 miles. Greetings, looking for some insight on a friends 2013 Mazda CX-9. When AC button is pushed, I can watch the compressor clutch engage, fans kick on, but absolutely no pressure change occurs on the gauges. I have dealt with clutchless AC systems utilizi...

BTW with the usage you describe, if there is a cabin air filter, I'll bet it is clogged with dog hair
No cabin filter on this one, I think it was just constantly recirculating dog hair  Airflow from vents is plenty sufficient thankfully.

Re: Poor cooling - diagnosing weak compressor or a TXV

Thank you to both of you. I agree that I am on borrowed time, and that it is best to replace the compressor before failure. Come to think of it, this truck was pretty rough when I purchased it. Dog hair everywhere, looked to also be an Arkansas farm vehicle  I bet it saw all kinds of low speed...

Re: Poor cooling - diagnosing weak compressor or a TXV

If on your first test you're reading 42 PSI on the low side (~48°F evaporator temperature, and ~63°F vent temperature), I too, doubt that the hot-water valve is to blame. Toyota valves of that vintage are pretty robust. Your second set of low-side pressures is much better, but the vent temp of 45°F...

Re: Poor cooling - diagnosing weak compressor or a TXV

In those same conditions, what is the temperature of the suction line close to the low side service port, give us all the temps and pressures I'm going to be purchasing a thermocouple soon so I can reliably take line temps. If you guys have any recommendations on one I would greatly appreciate it :...

Re: Poor cooling - diagnosing weak compressor or a TXV

I just tested again today, here are my results. 80F ambient, 89psi static, windows down, 1500 rpm, recirc, 29-32psi low, 177psi high. Vent temps at 45F. Much better, but still would like to see 38-42F with ambient only being 80F. So it looks like today its working rather well. What sorts of things w...

Poor cooling - diagnosing weak compressor or a TXV

-2000 Toyota 4Runner -200k miles -91F ambient -Low side: 42psi -High side: 220psi -Vent temp: ~65F Hello everyone, I am getting 60-70F vent temps on my 4runner. The system was evacuated, vacuumed, and charged by weight. Pressures are 42psi/220psi at 1500rpm. Condenser is clean, fan clutch is GOOD, a...
