Re: 2014 Silverado 1500 AC Trouble

Some TXV designs are inherently noisier than others (i'm quite sure the OEM mfg for my car's TXV, TGK, updated the design sometime around 2003 in order to fix a noise issue caused by a too thin operating shaft that vibrated too much under high HPs IIRC; they changed it to a thicker shaft, encased th...

Re: Murray AC Compressor Questions

Looks like a single sided swashplate variable displacement compressor. With these ones, usually ( some Denso 5SE units are an exception apparently ) the compressor housing features a drain hole that allows the entire crankcase to be both drained and refilled with oil. The one on my car has one point...

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

See? Vent temp climbed down as heat load (humidity is also additional heat load) increased. I'd have turned AC on for a few mins during any warm spell. Rather than adding one ounce or so, i'd recommend you visit an RRR equipped pro and have everything recovered, weighed and restored to proper spec. ...

Re: 2007 impala ac issues

With the refill i was going to have a full evacuation, vacuum test, reoil and refill. As JohnHere said, ensuring the proper amount of oil is in the system is a way more time consuming process than just hooking a machine to the system. The "reoil" the RRR stations usually do is actually in...

Re: 2007 impala ac issues

A combo of a dirty condenser and a worn/malfunctioning condenser fan drive system can do that. Perhaps the weather warmed up after the first week. By the way that's a CVC compressor and the one on my Euro car has an overpressure valve (a little nut looking thing; that colored dot thing held in place...

Re: 2002 Civic Si – Evaporator temperature sensor

Your 2002 Civic should have the block type expansion valve. In that case, there's no equalizer line, yet the valve is still, technically speaking, externally equalized, since the refrigerant is directly able to exert force upon the diaphragm as it leaves the evaporator. Depending upon the valve's de...

Re: Help picking a compressor

Running a Chinese import knock-off comp on my car since last August, and it's a way more complex and delicate variable displacement comp too. No issues at all and pretty quiet too, so i'd say no problem as long as you get it installed the correct way and ensure the rest of the AC system is in perfec...

Re: Ice on pipe from evaporator

IMHO i'd stay away from aftermarket for a TXV. These are precision metering devices and there's a precise MOP and flow control curve for each AC system. I'd buy either Denso or second hand.

Re: Ice on pipe from evaporator

Might also be a jammed open TXV. Especially if AC is wimpy all the time, not just ice cold for some time then gradually warmer (this is what an evaporator that is running too cold usually yields). Too much refrigerant flowing through, suction gets too high (so the evaporator can't get cold enough) a...

Re: New A/C compressor locked up after not operating for 6 months

How much is the question. I've heard of (let's specify some) new comps stating pre-charged yet turning up with less than the system amount of oil inside. Good habit is to drain any oil out of the new comp, dispose of any drained oil properly, and then refill it to the proper amount with commercial D...
