I don’t see much sense in trying to overhaul that comp. See if Tim the site owner can suggest a replacement. If he can be a sport and buy it from him, his prices and quality can’t be beat

I would advise a reclaim of the refrigerant using an RRR machine, obtaining a well held vacuum, and recharge to factory specs before going further.
We have no idea what kind of service the car received.

Be careful that you are not running low on oil. If there is a slow leak, usually you are losing small amounts of oil as well. Look for “wet” areas at fittings, joints, etc
