Re: Topping off R134a - how to?

Hindsight is 20/20 and next time around I won't be using these little cans. It wasn't wise at all to use a 1/2" Appion vacuum hose to charge dinky little 12 oz cans  I deserve the genius award for that one.

Re: Topping off R134a - how to?

My car takes 18.7 oz MAX. I did attempt to charge by weight but I realized my setup was terrible by the time I was filling via suction side. I charged probably 11.5 ounce from first can (.5 approximation from bleed off). Fill net wt is 12oz The next can I weighed again after disconnecting since it's...

Topping off R134a - how to?

Happy Thursday everyone, I used the search function but did not find anything conclusive. I realized I am a bit low on the refer charge and thus I want to add more R134a in. Probably need to use hot water and take my time to get in more refrigerant as vapor via low side. Since the system is now clos...

Re: Filling R134a from high side in liquid state with engine *OFF*

Morning Tim, sorry I should clarify. It's Nissens brand. Apparently it's a European (Danish) company and they do OE and aftermarket if I recall correctly.

Re: Filling R134a from high side in liquid state with engine *OFF*

Thanks for the info AI9. I ended up filling 3/4 of my first straight 12 oz can into the high side with engine off. Worked like a charm! The Nissens compressor sounds so smooth and quiet compared to the old clanker I pulled out. Now let's hope it holds up for a few years but unfortunately I sent a sl...

Re: Vacuuming and recharging w/o a manifold gauge set

I went ahead and vacuumed down the system last night and recharged the system. It's working great and I am getting 40 degree vent temps and pressures on manifold appeared normal during the recharge. Now I screwed up when I went to fill with the second can of straight R134a. The first can I purged th...

Re: Filling R134a from high side in liquid state with engine *OFF*

I'll roll the dice and hope the Nissens spec'd ones are better and most of the reliability and performance has to do with a proper install. My original Keihin HS110R scroll went almost 180K. Luck of the draw I guess!

Re: Filling R134a from high side in liquid state with engine *OFF*

Thank you for your expertise guys. I am a noob but always willing to listen and learn. Tim, i wasn't aware of your site until after the fact but I already bought a Nissens branded scroll compressor. Does Sanden offer anything for the generation 2 (2002-2006)Honda CRVs?

Re: Filling R134a from high side in liquid state with engine *OFF*

Thanks for the info. So everyone compressor that gets filled as vapor via the low side suffers immediate wear and tear?

If that's the case, why aren't more filling through high side with engine OFF? All those Youtubers have been doing it wrong then!

Re: Vacuuming and recharging w/o a manifold gauge set

Appreciate the insight John, will go ahead and do it the conventional way with a manifold gauge set!
