Re: 1988 Chevy Suburban r12-r134a retrofit problems
This Suburban came with just a single evap. It worked good when it was R-12. From the sounds of it I have 2 choices. 1. Work on getting the charge just right. 2. Tear it apart again and replace the evap with one from a trusted manufacturer. Then work on getting the charge right. I think at this poin...

Re: 1988 Chevy Suburban r12-r134a retrofit problems
Here are a couple of PICS of the original evaporator. The one I replaced it with is a Fourseasons 54275. If its under charged and starving the evaporator would the over all temp of the evaporator just be warmer and not have a 22* difference from one side to the other? It also seem like the path of l...

Re: 1988 Chevy Suburban r12-r134a retrofit problems
I have not had the time yet to empty and recharge the system with 36 oz of refrigerant but today I had the time to replace the LPCOS and it is now turning the compressor off at 26-27 psi and turns it back on at 40 psi. Then I removed the duct that attaches to the rear of the heater-A/C housing under...

Re: 1988 Chevy Suburban r12-r134a retrofit problems
Johnhere. I was thinking that by changing the type of condenser from tube and fin to parallel flow would change the amount of refrigerant needed for a correct charge. The old one looks like it has a much larger internal volume than the new one and therefore the stock specs would be off as a starting ...

1988 Chevy Suburban r12-r134a retrofit problems
High everyone. I've been gleaning knowledge from this site for a while, but this is my first post. I have a 88 Chevy suburban that needed a new compressor and it was recommended to be retrofitted to use R134a at the same time. The mechanic said he had done quite a few retrofits and while they do not...
