Re: Classic car ac help

Nothing wrong with the Buick evaporator, heater core, and fan per se, assuming yours are in good shape.

Keep in mind that the Buick system used a TXZ and POA, and the newer system uses a Cycling Compressor with an Orifice Tube.

Re: Driving car with VDC and no refrigerant

b] The dealer's service writer said there would be no problem driving the car while we wait for parts, as long as we didn't turn the AC on. Okay, it's not summer anymore, but doesn't the compressor want to be on in DEFROST setting? Supposedly the system won't try and turn on the compressor if it's ...

Re: Driving car with VDC and no refrigerant

I was wondering about the insides of the compressor, since the shaft and swashplate are rotating any time the engine is running.

But it sounds like it's not a problem, Thank You guys!

Driving car with VDC and no refrigerant

2016 Hyundai Sonata SE 6000 miles, 3 months old 2.4 GDI engine, auto trans Variable-Displacement Compressor (no clutch, anyway, so that's what I'm assuming) IS it OKAY to drive the car without refrigerant to circulate lubricating oil, or am I going to be looking at a new compressor in a few years? A...

Re: Why the change to: Charge by weight not psi?

Okay, I completely get it when dealing with a newer (smaller) system with a ton of sensors, variable displacement hoorah, etc, etc. And while I've heard the money angle, I do believe that in automotive a/c, the smart money is spent on doing the job right the first time. But how about older systems, ...

Why the change to: Charge by weight not psi?

I've done my own automotive A/c work for the last 30 years, converted several R12 systems to R134a, replaced/repaired everything in a POA, TXV, and CC/orifice tube system over the years - so while I'm no professional or expert, I do have a fair bit of experience - and was wondering... Why is it that...

Re: Oil in an RV engine AC compressor

Anybody? Well, the acdelco tech connect site indicates at least 2.5 ounces of oil, more of a greater amount came out of the old one. So I think I'll go with 2.5oz

Re: Static Pressure 2003 GMC Sierra

Understanding that your truck is on its way to the salvage yard, and that proper AC repairs aren't going to happen on its way...and that any damage that doesn't include injury isn't a big deal... Look your truck up inline, find the amount of refrigerant charge it takes. My '01 Silverado takes 2lbs, ...

Re: Trailblazer electric fan clutch, educate me please

I've got an '04 Rainier, same animal as a Trailblazer. Had the same "low temp" code as you, I ended up replacing both the thermostat and the coolant temp sensor because it's SUCH a PITA to get to either one. I believe that the fan clutch is basically a viscous-fluid clutch like the old one...
