Re: 2003 Ford Taurus - Compressor not engaging

Time to close this one out. Thanks for the assistance from everyone.

A quick recap for anyone possibly using this in the future.

Problem #1 was the compressor not engaging even after 12 oz of freon at static pressure. The solution was getting a good connection on the clutch cycling switch to the ...

Re: 2003 Ford Taurus - Compressor not engaging

Thanks John, I'll test it at 1800 RPM and check pressures again.
I'm not seeing separate HPRVs offered locally at part stores or online, including ACKits. I wonder where they can be had. I only see them attached to the manifold hose assembly.

Re: 2003 Ford Taurus - Compressor not engaging

Thank you John.
Good info to know. You were spot on with your suggestion of where the leak might be. This car had indeed been up north and the leak was right out if the compressor on the high side, very small.

I will plan not to jump a compressor again...
On the original problem, I believe the ...

Re: 2003 Ford Taurus - Compressor not engaging

Thanks very much for this.
I've been reading Ford Taurus forums to try getting ideas on this specific car, and there is opinion there that 2 cans may be needed to get it clutching in.
Some are even saying they could not get automatic clutch operation without jumping the compressor so they could ...

Re: 2003 Ford Taurus - Compressor not engaging

Thanks very much for your response.

Yes, moved the old cycling switch at the time of replacement, and it was indeed plugged in during testing.
The one on the manifold is plugged in as well.
Good to know, I won't try to fiddle with that one, but can it be tested a different way, ohms or something ...

Re: 2003 Ford Taurus - Compressor not engaging

Regarding the previous post:

1. Is it abnormal that the compressor is not clutching in with 12 oz of freon and a reading of 85 psi on both sides? (Ambient 76F). Dynamic pressures in previous post.

2. Is 12 oz in a 34 oz system enough to get the compressor clutching in?
Concerned that I've got a ...

2003 Ford Taurus - Compressor not engaging

Good evening all.

Seeking some advice...I'm working on the subject line car and have put in new parts (compressor, liquid line w/ o tube, and accumulator) after getting the report that car slowly was losing freon over time.

Vacuum test did not hold, dropping about 1-2 mmhg in 4 hrs. Can see ...
