I'd think body shops get in plenty of cars so equipped by now. I think some Cadillacs and Chryslers started using it in 2013.

Why hasn't R1234YF dropped in price much in the last few years?

Luckily I haven't had a car that needed it yet, but sooner than later it's inevitable. It's been out probably 8 years now and still costs nearly $60 a pound while I paid less than $3 per pound for 134a last year by the drum.

Re: New to me '03 Ford E150 has zero freon.

A/C season is pretty much over around here so not going to worry about it. As long as it turns on so somebody can see it works, its fine. Charged up with 3 1/2 pounds and it's blowing cold front and rear. Compressor is quiet.

New to me '03 Ford E150 has zero freon.

Gauges show 0 charge so I connected a vacuum pump for 15 minutes. That brought it down to -30 so I shut it off. Checked again 15 minutes later and it was still at -30. WTH? With zero freon, I was expecting a big leak and for the gauge to rise a lot. Suppose someone could have opened the system at so...

That's about $6.50 a pound. Bought a drum for $84 yesterday which works out to $2.80 a pound and is much easier to work with and dispense the right amount.

Re: 2001 Escort ZX2 compressor leak

I just came back to post an update but never got any email notification of replies, even though I have the "Notify me when a reply is posted" checked. I got a Denso compressor and installed it. This is a $300 car so didn't want to replace other parts, especially since it's blows ice cold a...

Re: 2005 Mustang sat for 4 years - A/C is system is empty

If it was my car, and I have had some sit for longer than that, I would run the pump 15 minutes and see if it's got a vacuum down to 30 inches. If so, shut off the pump for another 15 minutes and see if it holds that vacuum. If it does, vacuum another 2 hours or so and then charge to specs. If the s...

2001 Escort ZX2 compressor leak

Car has 37,000 miles. I evac and charged to spec and it blows ice cold air but after a few days the charge has leaked out. My leak tester goes off above the compressor and I can see yellow dye on the body of the compressor below. I have a few questions. 1) Can I replace just the compressor without a...

Re: 2006 Saturn Vue cooling at idle

If I hold the throttle down at 1500rpm, temp immediately drops, I let off temp immediately goes back up. That's opposite of what you say in your title. Do you typically only read thread titles? No but the facts stated here are contradictory. Regardless, if there is normal cooling at above idle that...
