Looks like a brown control valve.
Swap it out for a Green one if you want lower evaporator temps.
The compressor is de-stroking to hold the 42 psi low side. So the high side pressures drop too.

Re: Various Scales on Manifold Gauges
That is basically a P/T chart for both R12 (white scale) and R134a (Red / blue scales)
It is used as a quick reference.

Re: 87 Chevy truck issues
The A6 compressor has a sump. Oil should be added there when installing a fresh unit. The sump level can be checked with the system discharged & compressor still mounted on the vehicle. Here is the procedure under "Frigidaire 6 cylinder" http://vintage.mitchell1.com/PClubData/chassis/e...

Re: 72 ranchero not cooling properly 134a system
Ok, you have all new components. Obviously the one non OEM part is where the problem is. The OEM TXV has a pressure reference line that was originally plumbed in to the POA valve. Now it is just plumbed in to an open pipe. The reference signal is no longer right. I am presuming that the TXV bulb is ...

Re: 72 ranchero not cooling properly 134a system
OP POA valves have been out of production for nearly 30 years. Your best bet is a NOS part. Classic Air shows stock on NOS Ford POA valves: http://www.classicautoair.com/POA-Ford-Valves-Home.html I would leave the York on it. Did you replace the TXV? Is it installed correctly? How about some history...

Re: 72 ranchero not cooling properly 134a system
Dougflas, the way I read this is: OP bought a 2 dollar tube from Old Air products to replace a $300 POA valve. Now his A/C sucks. He no longer has / never had the POA valve. I am betting that for their next act, they will tell him the tube is more modern, and that he should swap his old 12 CID compr...

Re: 87 Chevy truck issues
So, where did you put the oil in the A6? This is a CCOT system. Did you pull the Orifice tube & make sure it is clear? As I recall there is an issue with the O/T breaking off in the evaporator on this model. The cheap (hack) "fix" is an aluminum tube in the liquid line with compression...

Next road test, pull it down a gear and get the cruising RPM up - then check the vent temp.

Re: Aftermarket AC system for a VW.
Did a search and found a chart and it says that for an ambient temp of 90 it should be between 45 to 55 low side and between 250 and 270 high side and as u can see I only have 32 ls and 212 hs. But I feel afraid of adding more r134 to achieve the values of the chart and damage someting. It looks li...
