Re: Thanks for the add and RV2 questions
The poor fan performance can be several things. Obviously check the ground at the fan motor & the overall health of the motor itself. Power connections from the switch to the motor, resistor etc. Check the air door operation, box seals etc. Also make sure that the exterior/fins of the evaporato...

Great idea !!!Dougflas wrote: place a shower cap around the front of the compressor and place the sniffer into the shower cap after sitting over night. And yes, keep this system R12 if at all possible.
Correct - never add any sealers or refrigerant with sealers.

Re: refrigerant and oil questions
My comments below in Capitals. I need to disconnect a couple refrigerant lines in order to replace my heater core on a 2008 Nissan Frontier. I'll have a shop recover the refrigerant, but plan to recharge myself. I have a few questions... 1. I assume the recovery process removes some oil - do the rec...

Side can tap
bohica - I've thought about getting/using a side can tap, I have separate top tap units for R-12 and for R134a. Exactly why do you like that type better? thanks.bohica2xo wrote:If you go with a vintage can, a side tap is a good investment.

Re: 1991 Mercedes R12 Troubleshooting
There is UV dye compatible with R-12, have some in my 1988 Mazda truck (still R-12). But one needs the correct injector for this if there's still R-12 in the system, so my mechanic did this for me. If all the refrigerant is out, then UV dye can be simply be added, then the system evacuated and new R...

Re: Adding oil after full system replacement
Basically just one line and the two stubs going through the firewall to evap core need flushed. I just ordered a flush gun so I'm gonna do it myself now. George Costanza - good, flush those two lines then. Is there a risk with starting out with 9 oz in the comp? Yes, do not engage the compressor wi...

Re: Adding oil after full system replacement
I'm wondering why you feel more needs to be flushed, with all those brand-new components.
Hopefully you confirmed that 3 oz. of oil in the compressor and didn't take that on trust. If so, add 6 more oz.; if it's all buttoned up already, then lot the shop add the remaining oil and do the rest.

I've had to replace an electronic actuator for the blending doors on two GMC vehicles, both stuck in the "hot" position.
