Re: 2012 Honda Civic Only cools when driving

Although the compressor was probably tired anyway, especially if it's the original with 188,000 miles on it, your current problem sounds like a condensing issue to me, too.

Re: Cleaning out an old A6

I wouldn't understand if the engine would absorb water, but fluid will infiltrate the interior and land on the carpets. Additionally, because the drains are so little, it doesn't take much to clog them. I typically use a compressed air one every month to blast them out with the sun-roof drains. Pos...

Re: Removed compressor, liquid came out?

Disregarding for the moment the reasons for draining the compressor, chances are it's PAG oil, probably 46 viscosity—unless a past owner left a flushing chemical in the system, forgetting to drain it and blow it all out.

Re: LO Side 0 PSI/ Vacuum, HI Side 100 psi

If I recall correctly, this Honda has a trinary switch on the high side of the system that allows the compressor to run (or prevents it from running) according to factory-set high-and-low pressure limits. The switch also controls the electric condenser fan(s) in much the same way but according to a ...

Re: LO Side 0 PSI/ Vacuum, HI Side 100 psi

The first set of pressures with the engine at idle and the compressor running suggests a very low refrigerant charge, although to get meaningful pressure readings, the engine should be at about 1,800 RPM, A/C and blower on maximum, doors and windows open, and a known, full refrigerant charge in the ...

Nah...30 pounds of "make in USA" refrigerant, an oven mitt, and a shower cap, all for less than $50.00

Re: First AC Job

That sounds great. Did you have an opportunity to measure the center-vent temps, and at what ambient temperature?

Sounds like you're pretty close on the oil amount, if a little over. Better that than too little, I think.

Re: My R4 compressor never cycles, either

Curiously, an acquaintance owned a 1993 Suburban that had an adjustable clutch cycling switch.

Re: First AC Job

A belated Welcome to the Forum. Mrs. JohnHere and I took some R&R at a cabin in the mountains of North Carolina, so I've been off the Forum for a while. Reading your first post, it seemed to me that the system just lost all its refrigerant due to the condenser leak. Thus, the PCM wasn't receivin...

Re: Yellow charge hose questions

Thats gonna be tough when i need to evacuate the system to fix the leaky component..honda uses dye to find leaks and they are fixing ac issues left and right with the current model civics/accords/crvs Not sure I understand. Using a good quality sniffer while the system still contains refrigerant wi...
