I don't see anything fundamentally wrong with you re-using your own refrigerant. I have done similar on my vehicles with both R-12 and R134a.
Yes, I still have one truck on R-12.

Re: Reusing R-134 in same vehicle
I’m on this forum because I have always taken care of my own AC issues. ....... It was time to be more professional with my AC work…..
Generally my approach has been to remove R-134 from the system, evacuate, see if it hold the vacuum, then replace the R-134 with the spec for the car. So far I ...

Re: 2006 GMC Sierra
However on 2 separate occasions now if I park the truck in direct sunlight where temperatures under the hood rise from sitting all day when I first crank the truck the relief valve on the compressor has popped and vented off freon on 2 separate occasions.
This is not normal. Attach some service ...

Re: 2006 GMC Sierra
Other issues I have noticed are sitting idle my AC is colder versus driving down the road and also it is colder on a lower fan speed versus max fan.
I can comment only on this part. It is normal for the air at the vents to be at a lower temperature at lower blower fan speeds because the air has ...

Re: 2011 Honda Civic airflow problems.
For several reasons, I recommend replacing the condenser. Tim at ACKits.com, this Forum's sponsor, can supply the best part at the right price.
This ! Condenser has been mangled.
Ensure that the radiator is in good shape, too.
This; and make sure all the electric fans behind the radiator ...

Re: Frontier KA24 2001 making a horrible noise.
It turns out that it was just a loose V belt haha, I guess that sometimes it's bad to overthink a problem and it's better to just begin with the simple things and the basics.
Thank you very much for your answer.
See what I posted earlier about my feeling that the shorter belts work better for ...

Re: Frontier KA24 2001 making a horrible noise.
I actually have a 1998 and a 2004 Frontier with that same engine. I also once had to remove an AC clutch shim to lessen the air gap on my 1998.
1. Check tension of the AC belt
2. Is there such noise when the engine is running and the AC switched OFF?????????
3. I'd pull off the AC belt, and ...

Re: Compressor whine, excessive low duct temp
Great !!!
Changed the temperature sensor to one with a different range, 34-43F (rather than the kit supplied 24F low range)
I'm not an AC professional, but 24F did seem too low, condensation would freeze.
The "de-icer" thermostat switch on my '88 Mazda truck is specified to shut off the ...

Re: AC Stopped Cooling
Open hood, start engine, turn on AC, and visually observe whether the AC clutch drive plate (the center disc of the AC clutch) is spinning at the same rate as the AC clutch pulley and AC belt. Report back.
Note if drive plate is essentially stationary.

Re: Buick AC, freezing POA valve, warm air
I received my gauge set yesterday. Gonna measure this weekend. Does a low pressure on the high side indicates a bad compressor? And how can I measure if the expansion valve needs replacing?
Measure both low and high side pressures at about 1800 - 2000 rpm when running AC a few minutes. Post ...
