Re: Expansion valve for 1970 Clardy under dash
Appreciate your posting the attachment. That system originally required less R-12 than I thought. Kudos to the OEM for specifying the exact weight-of-charge in 1960.

Re: Oil Analizeer
I'm not familiar with the Oil Analyzer Test Kits that you mentioned. But as for the yellowish-green fluorescent dye, only a small amount should be added to the A/C system for leak-checking purposes, typically around one to two tablespoon's worth (about 1 fluid ounce or less). What you already added ...

Re: 12a chart
Adding to the comments just above, I don't blame Canadian citizens who want to work on their own A/C systems for using alternative refrigerants, since R-134a is very expensive and nearly impossible to get in Canada unless you're somehow certified and employed in the business. That's my understanding...

Re: Continued from my previous thread: Plans for 90 civic A/C rebuild with newer gen Sanden compressor - remaining quest
Also, for reasons of understanding, if the TVX superheat was much, much higher than 8°F, how would this be felt in system performance? I'm not a MVAC engineer, but to answer your question, I believe that with a much higher TXV superheat, the evaporator will be warmer because the liquid refrigerant ...

Re: Continued from my previous thread: Plans for 90 civic A/C rebuild with newer gen Sanden compressor - remaining quest
The important point to remember about superheat is that you don't want any liquid refrigerant to enter the compressor after it exits the evaporator because any liquid will "slug" the compressor and most likely, damage or destroy it. The refrigerant will be in a superheated state from the e...

How about the original TXV...is it still serviceable? A TXV doesn't "care" whether it's R-12 or R-134a that's used.

Re: Leave well enough alone or charge AC system? Older Hondas
Place a thermometer in the center vent and keep it there so that you can monitor A/C performance as you drive. Should temperatures rise into the uncomfortable range, you'll know immediately that you have a problem, verified by the thermometer.

Re: Leave well enough alone or charge AC system? Older Hondas
I had assumed that when the AC is evacuated, the oil would stay in the system and only the refrigerant is removed. The oil will stay in the system during evacuation prior to recharging. During recovery of the refrigerant using an RRR machine, some oil usually comes out. It accumulates in a graduate...

Re: Leave well enough alone or charge AC system? Older Hondas
I should also have mentioned the cabin air filter has been maintained. Excellent. I found the following on the internet, regarding a "rough test of the AC system would be to turn the fan on low, set the temp at minimum, set the vent to fresh air, run the engine rpm at around 2500. Measure the ...
