Re: New compressor, shuts off on high head pressure

Another thing to consider is that the charge goes in much easier with the interior fan on low speed. Yes, the clutch will cycle but running the fan will increase the load and slow down the charge time.

Agree with above recommendation as well.

Re: Orifice tube sizing

I once had a late 80s era Cadillac that was ultra clean but the AC was inop. Looking over the vehicle, it had been retrofit to R134a and had some type of adapter in the liquid line before the evaporator. We removed the adapter and it was only an aluminum pipe with a restriction about the size of the...

Re: Compressor Won't Run

You should see a low side with the interior fan running on high of about 40 psi and on the high side around 220 psi.

Re: Orifice tube sizing

Whatever everyone feels is best for them.

I have an original 1978 Chevrolet Corvette with an A6 compressor, original to the vehicle. Yes, I do see some oil slung out, but it works and cools just fine.

Re: Orifice tube sizing

As a rule of thumb, the A6 is the top shelf of compressors. Yes, they're heavy and take a lot of power to run, but they move the refrigerant on those old systems.

Ford and Mercedes both used the GM A6 compressor in models in the 1970s and 1980s because of their superior design.

Re: Compressor Won't Run

Use a scan tool to see what codes are stored in the AC system. On some vehicles, once the system registers a code for low refrigerant, it will not engage the compressor until the code is cleared. Start there.

Re: Blower Motor Runs Continuously

These were semi-common failures on 90s era GM vehicles that had automatic climate control. What would happen is that the central module would fail and you'd have a high speed fan all the time or none at all. When we had a vehicle where you had to pull the fuse to turn off the fan, that's the common ...

Yes, the OP has a few perspectives now and can choose as they see fit.

Best wishes and hope it all goes well.

You likely do not have a "leak" other than very small amounts over time. Yes, all systems leak. At this point, do what you believe is best. I would lay a bet that you won't find anything with the black light anyway. In my shop, we used an electronic leak detector as well as looking for evi...

Re: 2015 GMC Sierra expansion valve leak at firewall

Are you checking this with the system off or on? The reason that I'm asking is if the system is on and the fan is running, you will get a certain amount of positive pressure at those sealed joints. That positive pressure is what makes the air come out the vents. Now, if you are getting bubbles with ...
