Re: What's causing o-ring leaks on my '04 Frontier?

Cusser , my Frontier is also a 2.4L with about 110K miles on it. I'm in central South Carolina, so it's hot - but not AZ hot. It looks like your fan clutches have failed on both of yours, and I'm curious how you diagnosed them? I've spent more time than I'd like to admit watching youtube videos and...

Re: What's causing o-ring leaks on my '04 Frontier?

I found one post somewhere where someone blamed blown o-rings on his Frontier on high head pressure caused by a bad fan clutch, but the truck itself is cooling fine. Yes, the coolant temperature can still be fine with a bad fan clutch; a properly operating fan clutch definitely helps an AC system. ...

Re: What's causing o-ring leaks on my '04 Frontier?

Wow. I've had a 1998 Frontier since 2004 (273K miles) and a 2004 Frontier since 2011 (116K miles) and am in Phoenix AZ, home of the 119F July temperatures. So I will relate the complete AC histories of these trucks since I've owned them (and I'm not aware of any AC issues with either before I obtain...

Re: Hose compensate to add the amount of freon in the hoses?

Watching Rainman Ray's videos when he charges up a system. At the end, he does a hose compensation function on his machine to add the amount of freon in the hoses to the system. He's saying it's something like .32 lb of freon. Is that possible what with a 1/4" i.d. hose maybe 6 foot long would...

Re: 2011 Foxd Ranger compressor clutch cycling.

Undoubtedly the system is very low on refrigerant, Have them evacuate, vacuum, and put in a partial charge with dye and then find and fix that leak before proceeding THIS !!! Take to an independent ASE mechanic or specialized AC place, not a brake shop that puts out a little sign or a dealer. And N...

Re: Black vs. green o-rings

When the compressor seized in my 2004 Frontier (116K) in 2018, I replaced the compressor, condenser, and drier (the drier and condenser were a single unit). These new parts did not come with O-rings (cost savings), so I bought an assortment of green NBR O-rings and matched up sizes, has worked fine ...

Re: 2013 Expedition Top Off

I want to top off my Expedition AC. It doesn’t cool. Somewhere around 2018 it stopped cooling well and I never took care of it. I think you need to get a new drier, likely moisture has entered your system over the last 5 years. And it's time to find and fix the leak, and get the system evacuated an...

Re: What To Look For in an AC Machine?

Bohica, one of the consultants here, will tell you there are no Teslas on the road in the summer daytime in Arizona. Reason being, the electric AC compressor sucks up so much battery, the range is severely truncated. 1. I'm in Arizona, Phoenix and Prescott areas. I also make that drive once per wee...

Re: What To Look For in an AC Machine?

I would like to get an R134a machine. The shop up the street that used to evacuate my systems for me has closed - the owner retired. I only care about R134a as my vehicles are older and that's all I intend to have a need for. Do you guys have any recommendations? What happened to the retired guy's ...

Re: potential leak prior to evacuation/recharge - how to find

I'm NOT a pro, so keep that in mind here. I still use R-12 in one of my trucks. Since you are using R-12 (expensive, though plentiful and available), I wouldn't add any R-12 until a nitrogen leak test AND vacuum-holding test show no leakage. I've heard of folks adding a can of R134a after evacuatio...
