Re: Vintage AC System Questions

While I'll never say don't distribute oil. The speed at which oil is circulated within a system. It would be extremely odd for a loss of oil to damage a new compressor from start-up, in this situation. If you have those concerns, cycle the compressor a few times at startup when charging the system.

I find it odd that all my direct suppliers. Do not carry Micron Gauges, but know them as well. The response would be to get it from the tool store.

Re: Reusing R134A

You actually raise an interesting question. When I was a shop owner and dealer, we used the machine to recover refrigerant and do the occasional top off. We always used virgin or "new" refrigerant to recharge a system. Most people charge with new refrigerant. Not 100% factual. Most dedica...

Re: Drain oil out of new compressor?

In general. Always drain the shipping oil and add back the vehicle spec and type.

This is what is stated now on the big 3 compressor dist listings, and is the standard policy for them.

OIL TYPE

Depends on the reclaiming equipment. Big machines reclaim and clean the refrigerant. Some of the lower-end stuff reclaims the refrigerant.

Re: Brand new AC compressor defective?

I agree with what John said—no experience with the refrigerant you used. Noise like yours tends to be an oil or refrigerant-related issue. Highly doubt a new Valeo is dead out of the box.

Re: Brand new AC compressor defective?

There is no way anyone can tell if you installed it incorrectly, as you have not provided any details on the repair process. Others may ask the specific questions needed. If you know them and did them, you can post that information. I've learned over the years if I ask, did you do this? The answer i...

No one should be charging by pressure at this point anyway. Even with custom/dual systems, one can determine the charge level.

Re: Does air get in system when using AC manifold gauges?

No need to make it more complicated than it needs to be. Hook gauges to the system. Close the valves, and bleed a little refrigerant through the center charging line—open valves, pump/vacuum down the system, and charge to spec.
