Evaps are famous for leaks. It leaks when the comp is running because of the increased pressure.

Re: R134a low side valve style
The valve on the left uses an O-ring to seal the valve itself into the valve body.
It is not clear to me how the valve on the right accomplishes that task. I would try to get the correct valve

Re: Clutch slips after engine warms up
The low side gauge indicates to me at least that you are somewhat low on refrigerant.
While you are at it measure the clutch gap, it s/b no more than .020

Re: 88 Toyo Pickup - rebuild ac system and flush questions
IMO the amount of oil will not change. I would strongly consider getting a new (never rebuilt) comp from Tim the owner of this website. His prices for a quality comp cannot be beat

Re: Hunting a Leak
By far and away, IMO, the best way to detect leaks is by charging with a partial can of refrigerant, and then using a sniffer to find the leak. Most of the other methods are antiquated IMO. Re: Winter ac charging
Totally agree with John.
I would not try to do anything with the components now. Seal up the ends of everything as best you can and then when the weather is much warmer reassemble components, flushing as needed. Is this an orifice tube system? If so was there a lot of crud on the OT? If so, this ...

Re: AC parts worth getting?
Rather than buy new ac parts willy nilly, if you do not have an immediate use for them.
For the SVO, ackits.com may be able to help you. The parts there are reasonably priced.
