Re: Can't find leak on R134 conversion - tried UV and Sniffer

Perhaps you should try that sniffer on a known refrigerant source. A leak that large would be hard to pinpoint with a good sniffer - it might go off at the grille with the hood closed. As for the Porsche site nonsense - no. He is selling an upgrade. Barrier hose is somewhat better, but an '89 probab...

Re: Need Help- High Pressure on Discharge Side

Charge level is probably close. If you are going to leave it for winter, stop there.

Recovery of the R12 is your next step, so start planning for winter. Either find someone with equipment, or start looking for your own. A brand new, clean recovery tank is around $100 these days.

Re: 1963 Jeep A/C

Post the pressures & temperatures - perhaps there is more cooling available.

Re: Evaporator temps around 70 degrees, vent temps only 45 degrees at best

Sorry, I have been out of town for a bit. Those drive pressures say you are undercharged a little. I would expect to see over 200 psi @ 84f with a solid heat load. Add an ounce, re-test, repeat. You can add small quantities of vapor on the low side while driving, then let the system stabilize while ...

Re: strange cooling

The clutch you may have to swap yourself. GM clutches have a fair bit of interchange, so a used v belt pully from a V5 HT6 etc. will fit a fresh V7. The Pontiac trans should not be a hard upgrade if it came to that - plenty of B-O-P bellhousings out there. Do you have the cam specs for your 389? If ...

That unit is the same as OEM - Copper Tubes with Aluminum fins. A nice copy actually.

Re: Need Help- High Pressure on Discharge Side

Nothing rots an evaporator better than 2 cups of pine needles & oak leaves in the case, kept wet with condensation. It looks like the used evaporator you linked to had about a cup in there with it, based on the corrosion on one end. An aluminum evaporator would be just fine unless you park under...

Re: Need Help- High Pressure on Discharge Side

Well, yeah if you have not had the box out to rebuild it, then your refrigeration system is probably working very well. The kink could be more than 20 years old, and may have been straightened enough right when it happened. Sleeping dogs & all of that - for now. The likelihood of the foam seals ...

Re: Need Help- High Pressure on Discharge Side

You would have to remove the evaporator from the car to anneal the tube. Have you ever had the evaporator out of the car? What sort of shape is it in overall? If the suction hose is OEM & weeping dye, I would replace it. Sounds like you are at a spot where recovering things & replacing a hos...

Re: strange cooling

That Catalina had over 200k on it when I sold it - "that trip" happened on a regular basis. The "Green Hornet" went everywhere, wish I still had it. Green on Green with A/C PS PB. Roll up windows. I bought it barely used from an old man that lost his eyesight. True, regular back ...
