Re: 53 Packard Patrician factory AC

Tbird: I have a 3208 CAT project in the shop right now with the same problem. 5.2 inch pulley and that diesel is on the governor @2800. Idle is 550. "Poor cooling" LOL A vintage C cab, and the fan is mounted on the end of the crank just to make it more fun. Earl: Yes a pic of the TXV if yo...

Re: 53 Packard Patrician factory AC

Well, the engine matters. We can get two pages into a system like this and find out it is an LS swap. Wasted time. BTDT Engine speed range and drive sizes matter. If you don't have enough compressor volume the system will be awful. The TXV could have virtually any refrigerant gas in it. All you need...

Re: 53 Packard Patrician factory AC

Looks like most of what you are keeping is the OEM evaporator and air handling. Let's start with the obvious question. Is the Original Straight 8 engine in the car? Is the car converted to 12v? Lots of things affect the finished product with a project like this. The Cadillac of that era used a Hot G...

Re: Newbie, installing "custom" system

The compressor discharge hose is a great place for extra oil. It spreads through the system with the refrigerant. I prefer to put switches like that in the dryer if you have a port available. The compressor discharge is pretty hot, and while the switch is designed for underhood service why run it ho...

Re: Testing Micron gauges

We calibrate brand new tools all the time. I have had to send out brand new Fluke meters for Calibration stickers before I could use one. If you have enough cash to buy $1500 worth of gauges, pick one you like and send it out. Or is this experiment going to produce 8, "open box" used retur...

Ask whoever you bought the pump from for a Manual, and the correct oil.

Send it out for Calibration.

I have calibrated meters, gauges, micrometers and torque wrenches.

Re: How much vacuum

1 Micron = .001 Torr or 1 micrometer of Hg = 1 milli Torr We started with a column of Mercury 30 inches tall. Except Atmospheric Pressure limited this to 29.92 inches. 30 inches being an absolute vacuum. While small fractions of the last inch of mercury were good enough for Crookes to make vacuum tu...

Re: How to figure out oil amount for custom system?

16 Oz of R134a by weight is 12.09 fluid Oz

The FS 10 depends on the refrigerant flow for lubrication. Unlike the Sanden, it retains very little oil inside.
