Re: Loud compressor drive plate noise when first engages

A few additional thoughts... You should hear a click when the clutch engages and then a running-compressor noise, which should be fairly low in volume and constant whenever the clutch is driving the compressor. If it's much louder than that—like the sound a steel-wheel roller skate would make whose ...

Re: Loud compressor drive plate noise when first engages

Other problems could be in play here, but yes, the clutch air gap might have become larger since the car was new. The largest the air gap would be is when the engine is cold, or in the morning on first start-up. It's not large enough to where the clutch will no longer engage, but it is to the point ...

Re: Kubota farm tractor both low side and high side High

I had a similar issue with my Kubota B2601. It sounds like there could be a problem with the expansion valve or maybe a refrigerant flow issue. In my case, it turned out to be a malfunctioning expansion valve that wasn't regulating the refrigerant flow properly, causing abnormal pressure readings. ...

Re: 2010 Rav4 no ac power to switch

If the system is only half full of refrigerant, ~8 ounces net weight, the binary or trinary switch (the switch with the three wires connected to it) has probably opened because of low pressure. It's actually doing its job and not allowing the compressor to run under such conditions. Before delving i...

Re: C2 Corvette parts search

My understanding is that the A-6 was not designed to cycle due to its small-diameter clutch, not because of the compressor itself.

What say you, GM Tech?

Re: Low Side Pressure

Without re-reading this thread, I don't think we know the make, model, and year of this vehicle and whether it has a TXV or OT. Regardless, it's possible that the charge is "off" and/or that it has a restriction someplace, as suggested earlier. If it's an older vehicle and the A/C system h...

Re: Walmart out of r134a refrigerant in Kentucky

I happened to be in the Walmart Supercenter in my area today and checked whether they had refrigerant...ANY refrigerant...and they didn't. There's plenty available online—both R-134a and R-1234yf—that can be delivered to my local store for pick-up. However, some of it is sourced from offshore and is...

Re: Walmart out of r134a refrigerant in Kentucky

I don't think Walmart is getting out of the refrigerant business of selling the small cans. But with R-1234yf currently selling for about six times that of R-134a (per pound), it looks like the market for the newer refrigerant is going to be much smaller among DIY-ers. To buy any refrigerant in bulk...
