Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

That poor thing is plugged up. Severely starved evaporator and a destroked compressor also. You should have heard a low droning sound inside with the comp running.

Re: Compressor oil

What Scion? The only ones from that year are Xa's and Xb's and their Denso 5SE09 compressors are rated for ND oil 8 (any DEC PAG 46 is the commercial equivalent). Perhaps some compressor manufacturers/remanufacturers just won't bother about researching/listing the proper oil type and viscosity, and ...

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

At this point it gets nothing but a wild guess, keeping in mind that a little more is always better than a little less. I've once seen a RRR station recover half a fl oz of oil from my car's AC, but its specs are about one pound of refrigerant and 5 fl oz of PAG oil. Smaller system for a smaller car...

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

Don't know how the compressor is mounted on this car, but V5/V7 comps are generally mounted so that the control valve's colored dot tip points towards the ground. With compressor's head, i meant the rear shell (casing is composed of 3 separate shells).

Re: AC restoration questions, '93 Mazda RX7

Bear in mind that i didn't mean to say that all Ester oils are junk, just that it's easier to run into a junk Ester oil than it is to run into a junk double end capped PAG. I didn't imply that BVA Auto 100 is bad Ester, therefore. Bottom line, take home message, call it however you want, i like to f...

Re: AC restoration questions, '93 Mazda RX7

Anyway, that car has been working fine with the Ester 100 & R134A -- cooling performance was a little bit better with R12 on the hottest most humid days, but the compressor seems quiet and happy running with the Ester. Compressor on that older RX7 is very similar to this one, biggest difference...

Re: AC restoration questions, '93 Mazda RX7

What concerns me the most is the oil you used. The slightly smaller TV12 compressors used in R-134A applications came with a ND oil 9 factory fill, that is, double end capped PAG 100, double the viscosity at 212F than Ester 100 (the viscosity you likely used, since that's the most common for auto ap...

Re: Whistling or hissing type noise in AC vent when compressor clutch activates

The hissing from the vents is the expansion device trying to expand something that is already expanded (vapour, instead of liquid refrigerant). Just so you know, lubricant can't make it back to the compressor in this state of things.

Re: Compressor Short Cycles with Correct Charge

If these are FSM specs (i don't know them) then i think you're fine. 1 oz is usually what dryers media retain. Don't know how much oil the Denso SCSA08 is supposed to retain during normal operation though.

Re: Compressor Short Cycles with Correct Charge

No, improper evaporator airflow drops suction.

You wouldn't be seeing those pressures with a jammed wide open TXV. One completely unable to modulate.

I'll restate idea #1.
