Re: Over hauling AC in 1995 Corvette

But what makes you pull the trigger to replace it? How bad of a leak at the valve would make you replace it? A slight puff of refrigerant as you remove the cap wouldn't be of concern, but a constant hissing of refrigerant from the Schrader valve would require its replacement. I think I’m going to g...

Re: System not holding vacuum

Recovered about 100g, after that tried to vacuum the system and the problem started to appear, my vacuum gauge was not going bellow 8000micron after about 30min of vacuum. After disconnecting the vacuum pump it rises to about 75000micron in a few minutes and stays there. Chances are, it's the compr...

Re: 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Something just isn't making sense to me. Vent temperatures of 58-63°F suggest that the coldest the evaporator is getting is about 53°F and means that it's running at about 50 PSI. Yet, according to your Manifold Gauge Set, the compressor is cutting off at 28 PSI with the LS pressure continuing to dr...

Re: Over hauling AC in 1995 Corvette

Are you saying it is normal for there to be a slight leak with the valve and the cap is really what seals the system? Yes, what you asked is correct. And if there is a slow leak on the low side Schrader valve, would you try to tighten it first or just buy the tool that allows me to change the Schra...

Re: intermittent clutch binding on sprinter van

The condenser also serves as a filter. So any debris shed from the original disintegrating compressor will lodge in the condenser. Some of that debris—usually plastic and metal, plus burned oil gunk—will eventually work it's way downstream to the other components. In this instance, they "found&...

Mark86 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 12:35 am How did you top off the system? Did you evacuate and recharge a known weight or did you use a can with the gauge? I used a can with a gauge. I think it's probably just low on refrigerant due to a slow leak. "Topping up" a system doesn't work becaus...

Re: Over hauling AC in 1995 Corvette

I noticed on my cheap gauges the 0 is a range on both high and low sides of about 5 on the low gauge and 10 to 15 estimated on the high. So I think the pressures I had would be +- 5 on low side and +- 15 on high. Okay. I would still consider replacing the fans. A Corvette can benefit from all the c...

Re: Over hauling AC in 1995 Corvette

The psi on the low side was 35 and high side was 250 to 260. Is my high side too high. Even though it's a Corvette, which isn't known for an efficient A/C system, the pressures are a little higher than I'd like to see at an ambient of only 80°F, especially the high side. What kind of fan do you hav...
