Re: 1986 Corvette R-12 to R-134a Conversion
I don't recommend forcing the compressor to run because there might not be enough refrigerant in the system to return oil to the compressor, starving it for lubrication, and causing an internal compressor failure. If it doesn't engage as you begin the charging procedure, then the can-warming trick s...

Re: 1986 Corvette R-12 to R-134a Conversion
If the static pressure of the system is roughly equal to the refrigerant container's pressure, no refrigerant will flow into the system, either liquid or gas, if the compressor isn't running. Hopefully, the static pressure is a little lower than the container's pressure, so as you begin to charge, t...

Re: System not holding vacuum
Sometimes it's only a valve core or new o-rings... The customer refused to go further for now. As we know, sometimes the fix is simple and oftentimes not. I wish people would spend the money and get the leaks repaired for the same reasons you so eloquently explained earlier, instead of recharging t...

I will weigh in the remaining 11 oz. Do I add as a liquid on the low side? Negative. With the engine and compressor running, charge gas-only into the low side, keeping the low-side handwheel open and the high-side handwheel closed on your Manifold Gauge Set until you reach the full calculated charg...

I didn't know it had a thermistor, also known as a "frost switch." From what you said earlier, I was going on the supposition that it had a LPCO. Moreover, having two thermistors installed doesn't make any sense to me, either, because the only reasons for its existence are to prevent evapo...

Re: 1986 Corvette R-12 to R-134a Conversion
Hard to tell whether there's enough refrigerant in the system to run the compressor. If it were mine, I would start from scratch: recover/evacuate/recharge. On recovery, the RRR machine will show how much it recovered. You can then compare the recovered amount to your original holding charge of 25.6...

Re: System not holding vacuum
I don't have fittings to test the compressor alone. We have some "universal" fittings for flushing but I don't think they will hold the vacuum. Anyway right now we will have to ask for customer permission to proceed, this was supposed to be a simple leak test and re-gas. On compressor mil...

Re: Over hauling AC in 1995 Corvette
But what makes you pull the trigger to replace it? How bad of a leak at the valve would make you replace it? A slight puff of refrigerant as you remove the cap wouldn't be of concern, but a constant hissing of refrigerant from the Schrader valve would require its replacement. I think I’m going to g...

Re: System not holding vacuum
Recovered about 100g, after that tried to vacuum the system and the problem started to appear, my vacuum gauge was not going bellow 8000micron after about 30min of vacuum. After disconnecting the vacuum pump it rises to about 75000micron in a few minutes and stays there. Chances are, it's the compr...

Re: 2008 Civic new compressor oil procedure
The specifications that I have for your Civic call for 15 ounces net weight of R-134a and 5.5 fluid ounces of PAG-46.
