Re: Plans for 90 civic A/C rebuild with newer gen Sanden compressor - remaining questions
While they're in storage for a few weeks and waiting to be installed, ensure that all the components are tightly capped—especially the R/D—to prevent dirt, insects, air, and moisture from entering.

Re: 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport
If you haven't already tried, tightly seal the end of the equalizer tube or pressurize it and retest. I've never done this, but I think the needle should move ever so slightly between the temperature extremes. It'll be hard to see, but I'm guessing maybe 0.030" at most. If needle movement still...

Re: 2003 4Runner intermittent a/c
I think it's just low on refrigerant, probably nothing more than that. Normally, the compressor shaft seal leaks a very small amount of refrigerant (carrying a minuscule amount of oil with it) to keep the seal lubricated. Over the years, this slight loss of refrigerant adds up to the point at which ...

First, don't jump anything. Those pressure switches are there for a very good reason. Toyota usually uses a trinary switch on their systems that monitors the low pressure and high pressure, and it also controls the fan. Second, and perhaps most importantly, let's get the correct charge into the syst...

Re: Insulate high side liquid line?
At 60mph steady, it settles out to 26psi on the low and under 240 on the high side, and blows 42F from the vents. Around town stop/start it will go to 50F The pressures look pretty good at that speed (~2,000 RPM??) and ambient (+90°F), and the vent temperatures are probably as cool as they're going...

Re: R-134a bulk suppliers
I haven't seen or heard of R-134a being sold anywhere in 10-pound or 15-pound containers, only 30-pound cylinders. If you prefer to buy it in smaller quantities, I think you'll need to go with the 12-ounce cans and purchase as you need it, along with a can tap suitable for self-sealing cans, which a...

Re: Plans for 90 civic A/C rebuild with newer gen Sanden compressor - remaining questions
The 4993 is a scroll compressor. Does that make it more or less likely that it has a sump? The Sanden 4993 scroll compressor doesn't have a sump in the same sense as, for example, a GM A6 compressor does. The A6 also has an oil pump, which the Sanden lacks. But according to one of the links you pos...

Re: High-side Pressure is Low But Air Vent Temp is Normal
So, again, thanks for your advice both to me and everyone else that has visited this forum. I'll make sure to recommend this forum to any of my classmates that gets stuck with an A/C problem, and I'll check back in 3 or 4 months once summertime weather allows for further testing. Great backstory. T...

Re: High-side Pressure is Low But Air Vent Temp is Normal
I noticed at the end of last summer that it wasn't blowing as cold as it usually does. I started as a full-time Automotive student at a community college last summer and one of my instructors (ASE Master Tech) did a full evac/recharge to 1.16 lbs (factory load) on 8/22/22 but it still didn't feel l...
